Our Verdict

These are Marriott points, so really 25,000 SPG points under the old program. That’s the standard bonus we’ve seen on this card with occasional increases to up to 35,000 points. I suspect we will see something similar with this renewed card but rather than a total of 105,000 I suspect they will just make it up to 100,000 points occasionally (this is what is currently being offered on the business card).  The SPG/Marriott programs will become unified on August 18th, when that happens getting this card will also make you ineligible for other Chase Marriott cards. This is explained in more detail here. The restrictions aren’t too bad on the personal card though and I suspect American Express will be forced to discontinue this card at some stage.

Hey William! Any chance we will see a newbies guide to maximizing Marriott points before the new rules kick in?

If going for the spg lux but are a current Chase Ritz holder, would applying for this personal spg to get any sort of bonus and then upgrading to lux when that comes out work?

So if you’ve had the previous SPG card or received the bonus on it then you can’t receive the new bonus due to the once in a lifetime rule correct?

Some people on Reddit are saying you’re eligible, some are saying you’re not. We may have to wait on a DP to confirm..

Shouldn’t this be considered a different product as the earning structure is different from earlier SPG card? I closed my personal SPG on 2014. Now if I proceed to apply, I’m seeing the 75k offer. Don’t know if that ensures that I’ll get the bonus.

So if I got the Marriott Premier Plus in March (bonus posted in April), I can’t get this card’s sign up bonus? Not sure if I am reading the T&C correctly. Thanks

can you get more than once per lifetime?

I looked at the T&C, and this is what it says about new restrictions:

Effective 8/26, welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had The Marriott Rewards® Premier Credit Card from Chase, The Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card from Chase, The Marriott Rewards Credit Card from Chase, or The Ritz-Carlton Rewards® Credit Card from JP Morgan in the last 30 days.

So if I already have Marriott Biz and SPG Biz, I can still get the SPG Personal bonus? And combine the 3 anniversary nights for a decent weekend trip? Sounds like a reason to keep some of these, as long as you don’t mind having 2 of 5 Amex CC spots taken up.

Doc, looks like there’s no referral bonus on this–do you know if Amex will bring the referral bonus back?
