Amex Offers: 2500MR/$25 Off $100 You Verizon Cellular Bill [2x]!

The Offer

A new targeted offer is showing in some Amex logins for wireless purchases and payments at verizonwireless.com:

  • Get a one-time $25 statement credit each time you use your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $100+ online at verizonwireless.com or by calling 1-866-804-6848 by 2/21/2017. Limit $50 in total statement credits.
  • Get 2,500 additional Membership Rewards points award each time you use your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $100+ online at Verizonwireless.com or by calling 1-866-804-6848 by 2/21/2017. Limit 5,000 Membership Rewards points.

The Fine Print

  • Expires 2/21/17
  • Offer valid on wireless services at verizonwireless.com or by calling 1-866-804-6848
  • Offer not valid in-store or at kiosks
  • Offer valid on wireless services, equipment and accessories
  • Purchases may fall outside of the offer period in some cases due to a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction (for example, the purchase date for online orders may be the shipping date)
  • Limit 1 enrolled Card per American Express Card online account and limit of 5,000/$50 per card (the additional points are in addition to any points you would normally receive for purchases on your Card under the terms of your Card Member Agreement and the Membership Rewards program; when we calculate the additional points benefit for Amex EveryDay Card products, points awarded under this offer will not be included)

Our Verdict

This is a targeted offer which is showing on some cards. I found the points offer on my BGR but no offer on any other primary card. Save it quickly in case there’s limited enrollment for this offer.

We usually see 10-20% off via Amex Offers, and 25% is excellent! If you got one of these offers, it makes sense to overpay your bill online which Verizon allows. Consider prepaying for as long as you can based on how many offers you have.

Also keep in mind that you can use the offer for goods purchases at verizonwireless.com as well.

Even more amazing is if you also have the targeted 10%/1k offer for any cellular payment. In the past, these types of offers have stacked and triggered both deals for a single payment.

One thing to note is that in the past there have been mixed reports about using the multi-tab trick with MR-points offers. The terms include lingo which might indicate that you can only get the points on one card per online login. Some have reported being limited by that in practice while others have reported the reverse. Let us know if you try it.

This issue is only relevant for the MR-points offer above. We’ve never heard of a problem getting the offer credit on multiple cards for statement-credit Amex deals.

I’m an AT&T user which currently has a 33% off Amex deal. This is what my AT&T account looks like (and I’m not done yet 🙂 ):

I wouldn’t worry too much about the possibility that you’ll switch carriers in the future since you should get a refund back on the card if that happens (although that likely will result in an Amex Offer credit clawback).

Any ideas on how to benefit from this? I have an AT&T user sadly

Is there somebody you know who could use the credit? Pay their bill for them, save them the $25 and have them pay you in cash for the $75 spend x 2X points credits? Maybe take you to lunch?

Awesome offer. I got this on both MR cards (one personal and one business) so I assume this is available widely.

Can I pay my landline Verizon bill online?

Do you know if this can be used to pay Verizon FIOS?

I just tried pre-paying $100 on my FiOS bill to a card with both the 10% off cell phone offer and this offer. I got a single email saying I used an offer. I previously confirmed that FiOS works for the 10% off cell offer (and the 1k MR cell phone offer), so I think the email was for that offer and not this one.

I’ll update if I end up getting the points.

Yes, please let us know if this is stackable. Thanks

You never updated. Does that mean you only received credit for the 10% off on the Fios payment?

Has anyone else tried to pay Fios?

Great deal! Found this on 3 different cards. But I’ve found sometimes with these MR points rewards I end up only being credited for the limit on 1 card. ie in this case even though I have 3 cards with this offer to earn a possible 15k membership reward points I end up only getting 5k points. anyone else have this problem — or rather does anyone get credited for all 3 cards (unless they credit to different MR accounts).

I got the 2500 points offer, does that mean I can pay $100 two times with the same card to get 5,000 points? I’m a bit confused on the wording. Thanks

can this be used for verizon gift cards at verizon.com?

Got it on all of my AU Amex ED NAF cards. Not on the wife’s 2 masters interestingly. Not on any other cards. But hey, 8X is still good by 02/21.

Oh BTW DoC I got exactly 25 points on my personal Amex Platinum Ameriprise for a $25 charge via MPX. So doesn’t look like that works.

How did you get your credit balance on AT&T to go over $300?? I have a bunch of AMEX offers I want to use, but have totally hit a wall. The online system does not allow me to pay beyond a $300 credit balance. I also went to an AT&T store and called customer service, neither were any help. I don’t want to let my AMEX offers go to waste!

I managed to overpay ATT by $700, but I didn’t have to do anything special. I just went to make a payment as normal a few times. Now I’m switching to Verizon so it looks like it will go back on all the cards like Chuck said.

I have the Verizon offer on 23 cards throughout the family though so I’m debating on whether to prepay $4600. Seems a lot to float.

You can only do a max prepayment of $500 on VZW. I tried plenty of times to go over previously.

Made the switch and ran into the $500 limit tonight and then noticed your message. We bought 6 phones on a device payment agreement that also has previous phone trade in credits for 24 months. I’m debating on paying off these devices in order to take advantage, but I don’t know if they will stop giving me the monthly trade in credits.

The ATT limit of $300 prepayment is for services such as UVerse where you have that account linked to your wireless account on a single sign in. It is still 2 separate accounts but if you pay it that way via the linked account, the charges come in as Wireless even though it is for Uverse. I have prepaid ATT wireless account close to $2K but never tried going over it.

I got this offer on a card that also has the 10% back on monthly cell phone bill. Will these stack if I set my amex card as the autopay for my verizon wireless bill?

Anybody have any experience trying to use these offers for Verizon Wireless (Business account)? I have access to 8 MR cards with the 2.5K offer, would be awfully sweet to pull down 8*2*2.5K = 40K MR.

4/4 cards (well, technically 4/5 counting Serve). Have one card that still has 10% off wireless too. Tried $100 payment on Verizon for cellular service on the card with both offers ($25/$100 and 10% off), got two “You just used your Amex offer email!” so, hopefully, that indicates that they stacked.

P.S. I currently have one online account for each amex card. This makes it a bit more difficult to access accounts (although not too much so with a password manager), but it makes it much easier to add “hot” offers via mobile so that they don’t disappear by the time I get home to use my laptop (which happened to the any airline amex offer which disappeared right before I booked a bunch of international tickets 🙁 ).

Fyi, it did stack:

Wow, just trying to make sure I am thinking about this correctly …

I got this — the 2500 x 2 MR points deal — on 1/4 of my Amex cards linked to my MR account.

My wife, who is an AU on 2 of these, got the same offer on both of her cards.

But if I am reading everything correctly, the fact that these are MR points, not statement credits, and that all of the points go into / through my MR account, means that Amex will cut us off after 2 $100 uses?

Can’t really complain… we also got the 1000 MR points for the generic cellphone deal, and I now have the Amex Business Plat card, so 2 $100 charges x (2500+1000) x 2 cents per point on airfare means $140 in airfare for $200 forked over to Verizon. I can live with that.
