Our Verdict
Pretty nice deal. Just keep in mind you won’t be able to use Sapphire Reserve PYB if you pay with Amex. Terms don’t discuss gift cards, but I assume it won’t work since it redirects to a different site when purchasing gift cards on airbnb.com.
You can pay now before the offer expires to lock in the deal. Assuming you are completing your stay before the offer expiration Frequentmiler has a cool tip to pay 50% upfront and switch the other 50% afterward to a different card, thus allowing you to trigger the offer credit on two separate Amex  cards if you have that.

Pretty good deal if you’re an Airbnb customer. I’m usually able to buy Airbnb gift cards at a 20% discount, so I’d prefer that to stockpiling AMEX points, though. My biggest problem though is I’m using Airbnb a lot less being largely confined to the USA. Most Americans think their properties are worth more than they really are, and it’s easier to find deals at hotels, especially if you play the hotel loyalty points game.

FYI I think Airbnb gift cards have a 3 month expiration date from purchase.
Secondly a way to get discounted Airbnb gift cards is buy them off Amazon. Like use 1MR/UR point for X% discount.
I think you are wrong about the expiration.
Funds should not expire as stated on Airbnb’s website. Is this regarding the gift card if not redeemed?
You should have several options. Right now, a good one is to buy them on Amazon after taking advantage of the various “pay by points” offers (using one point) that the doctorofcredit discusses.
This is viable for smaller gift cards, but if you are an airbnb regular and spend thousands this would be a fair bit of work to try to maintain a 20% discount since many of the offers have lower amount caps. I spend a lot on Airbnb and try to keep above a 10% discount through similar methods.
