[Expired] [Update] AmEx Offers: Delta Airlines, Spend $350/$200 & Get $100/$75 Back

Deal has ended, view more Delta Airlines deals by clicking here.

Update 7/3/22: There are some reports (1, 2) that gift card purchases are no longer working to trigger the Amex Offer since it’s being routed on the back-end through Cashstar and reflecting differently on the credit card statement.

The Offer

Check your AmEx Offers for the following deal:

  • Get a one-time $75 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $200 in one or more purchases directly with Delta Air Lines by 9/30/2022. Flight must originate in the U.S. and purchase must be in USD.
  • Get a one-time $100 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $350 in one or more purchases directly with Delta Air Lines by 9/30/2022. Flight must originate in the U.S. and purchase must be in USD.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid for purchases made directly with Delta Air Lines through U.S. delta.com, via Fly Delta U.S. App, and U.S. reservation telephone line.
  • Flights must originate in the U.S., including U.S. territories, and purchases must be in U.S. dollars to qualify.
  • Offer valid only for purchases where Delta Air Lines is the merchant of record, such as airfare, fare upgrades, seat selection fees, baggage fees, standby fees, and Delta Sky Club® memberships.
  • Excludes the following: (i) purchases in-person at the airport where Delta is not the merchant of record, lounges, and sales offices, (ii) all purchases on-board flights including food, beverage, and WiFi, (iii) stand alone hotel bookings and car rentals through delta.com, (iv) purchases through third parties or affiliated agents, and (v) Delta Vacations®, Delta Dive, Delta Cargo, On Demand Charter services, Delta Flight Museum, SkyMiles® Marketplace purchases, SkyMiles Experiencesâ„¢, SkyMiles Cruises, Delta Meeting Network, (vi) travel insurance/trip protection, gift card purchases, and charitable donations.

Our Verdict

These are significant discounts on a Delta. I see the $350/$100 version on my Blue Business Plus and the $200/$75 on my Blue Cash Preferred, and had no problem saving both.

[Update: There are some reports that gift card purchases may no longer work] Seems that with previous offers around this worked for most people who bought a Delta e-gift cards at this link (despite the terms excluding it). Buying at that link will likely work for physical gift cards too; just make sure not to go through a Cashstar link for the purchase since it won’t trigger the offer. Also note: Only using the desktop site works, don’t do this on mobile which somehow codes differently and does not trigger the Amex Offer credit.

I hate locking money into gift cards, but I’m thinking about it with the $200/$75 offer. Buying a gift card might also help to then book flights outside the US or some other form of excluded booking.

i think gift card credits are dead.
email gc i received says: “The charge will appear on your credit card statement as: DELTA CSTAR GFTCD.”
and also: “Delta Gift Card, powered by CashStar.”

Anyone know of a way to spend $2 with delta? I purchased flights totaling $198.60, so am just short of $200 to get the $75 back.

Anyone was successful with a gift card route lately? Offer is expiring 9/30 so wondering if there is a chance to take advantage of it short of booking real travel

Even if they gave me free tickets, will never fly with them again.

Does anyone know if the “only on flights originating in the US” part is actually enforced, even if booking on delta.com US site for a flight going to the US? Seems like that should code the same. Is it true even for baggage fees? Those are paid directly at the airport and a separate charge from the booking- how would they know the baggage was for a flight starting outside the US?

I believe if you go on the desktop Amex site, the transaction will list a ticket number and a departing and arriving airport code.

Airline ticket purchases typically have itinerary details like origin, destination, date, class of travel included in the transaction details.

Flights originating elsewhere are usually billed in the originating country currency so it will not trigger if that is the case.
With regards to baggage fees etc., in-flight wifi purchase was tracked correctly by Delta and did not count towards my $200 spend. There was no way to distinguish the charge on how it posted but my guess is Amex is tracking the Level 3 data to filter such charges so be mindful of that. Again, the baggage fees in a different country will likely be charged in local currency so highly unlikely it will track.

I messed up and booked a non-refundable ticket. Only option was a refund back to my original payment method instead of allowing me to refund to e-credit. Does anyone know if I can I reuse the offer after it’s been refunded?

I was able to reuse the Dell $120 offer last month after Dell cancelled my first order and I reordered.

FYI, the gift card via desktop site trick might not work anymore.

I made a purchase on the desktop site. The transaction is showing up as “DELTA AIR LINES GC” while for earlier offers it didn’t have the “GC” part. Some quick search shows that this is enough for Amex to detect this as a gift card. No email for offer being used.

Didn’t work for me a couple of weeks ago for a referral spend requirement. Ended up booking a short non-refundable flight and cancelled for eCredit. That worked.

Can you elaborate how to get the eCredit? Does the credit expire?

Book a flight for $350+, wait 2 days, cancel the flight. You’ll get Delta credit valid till the end of 2023 for flights through 2024.

Yeah I don’t think it works anymore. I read somewhere that if you scroll down all the way to the bottom of the gift card page, you can see the cashstar logo.
