The Offer
Check your AmEx Offers for the following deal:
- Get a one-time $5 statement credit by adding your enrolled eligible Card to a qualifying digital wallet to make a single purchase of $20 or more on automotive gas purchases using the Shell App by 8/16/2022.
The Fine Print
- Offer valid for automotive gas purchases made in-app with a qualifying digital wallet via the Shell App at participating Shell stations in the US.
- Excludes any payments not made via the Shell App, such as transactions made online or by phone or payments made at the pump.
- Not valid on car washes, garage or mechanic services, or purchases made in convenience stores or at restaurants at Shell stations.
- Excludes locations outside of the US.
Our Verdict
I can’t seem to find this one on mine, but lots of people are seeing this. Offer stacks well with the AmEx Offer for $3 off $35 at gas stations.
I’m unsure if the app part is enforced, let us know if you try. I’m also confused by the digital wallet part of the offer, sounds like it won’t work if you add a credit card directly in the Shell app (?).

I got this offer last month on my BCP. I used it successfully with my Apple Pay set as a default payment method within the Shell app Payment Methods (and BCP in Apple Pay). I find the Shell app very convenient and you can even authorized a fixed amount just like you pay inside.
I pulled up to the pump, selected pump number in the app, authorized the pump exactly for $20 from the app, and got $5 cash back after 4-5 days.
ok thanks for your dp on apple pay. I will try to use with my Google pay and see if it works at the pump.
were you able to use fuel reward discount with this? How to do it?
I don’t use Fuel Rewards, but I saw the option to link your Fuel Rewards account in the Shell app.
Why on earth they have a Shell app for a wallet, and a separate app for Fuel Rewards, both with separate logins, is frustrating.
Last few weeks up here Shell premium is 5.45. Upstate NY.. Gulf is 5.22 premium. Was 5.69.

Shell app is not working with the stored amex card.. :(…wasted time at the pump trying to load. Any other way?
You can use Apple Pay in the Shell app.

Shell app has added option for credit card payment. I am wondering if adding credit card to the app will work.
Yes, just add your CC to the app and it will work.
Shell offer should stack with other Gas offer – ” Get a $3 statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to spend a minimum of $35 in one or more purchases at a U.S. gas station by 7/15/2022. Limit of 5 statement credits (total of $15)”
