Our Verdict

Nice time to try out Silvercar, I’m seeing this offer on all my Amex cards. I believe there’s some referral bonus for new users. Do no leave referrals here – ask a friend or something for a referral. Let us know if there are any other Silvercar deals available to stack.

do folks know the $20 charge for primary coverage be added / counted toward the $350 rental total? or a separate charge whereby not part of silvercar rental? thx

Data point: In case you are using Chase Sapphire Reserve for coverage, Silver car asks you to enter your policy details, Just enter ‘Chase Sapphire CC’ and leave the policy number empty.

For those familiar with SilverCar, can I put my CSR on file, then at the time of return, change the card on file to my Plat? As long as there’s no damage.

The question here would be if a premium card like Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Insurance is worth better than the $100 off with Amex. Costs about $30/day in Vegas when I checked for my dates. That totals about $150 for 5 days. Instead, I could pay with my Sapphire Reserve and save $50. Any comments on this?

I have been looking at this scenario. My personal car insurance would cover me but I like to avoid that when possible. Amex does have a premium rental policy for $25 for the whole rental (https://feeservices.americanexpress.com/premium/car-rental-insurance-coverage/home.do) that might make it worth using the offer.

Maybe just me but I found Silvercar to be way worse than a rental company like National or even Hertz. Our first experience (LA) was blah and our second was flat out terrible (Tampa).

Cheap is cheap, but they certainly don’t live up to the “disrupter” label. It’s just another car rental company like Budget.

Thanks for the post. This is the first time I’ve heard of silvercar and may try this for an upcoming rental. Though not sure about Amex even though I have the offer, have much better rental insurance on other cards. Being an Audi, probably want the best insurance coverage. 🙂

That is a wise decision. I rented a Silvercar and had a minor scrape on the bottom of the front bumper. Silvercar wanted 3 days of loss of use and the repair costs for a total of $800. I had used the Chase Sapphire Reserve card for the rental and the card paid the entire bill (for much less). Silvercar is quite strict on any damage.

Definitely something to consider. Amex does have a premium rental coverage for $25 that supposedly pretty good but have to look closer at it. I have a reservation in two weeks for Alamo so I have time to figure it out. Thanks for the DP.

I travel for work and have only used silvercar ever since I found them. The cars are fully loaded and even come with WIFI. Definitely above Avis, Hertz etc. Prices can be high but lucky for me the company pays for it!

You can probably put the booking on e.g. CSR, only the final bill on the AmEx if no damages at the end, that should still trigger the offer.

Thanks for the MYAUDI2 code, saved a ton for me on a rental in PHX during peak season – will be driving a Q5 for what Hertz is asking for a compact.

Abhirup I just booked a reservation but there is no place to add a promo code. Do you know where? Thanks.

Nevermind, I found one of the codes and rebooked it.
