Our Verdict
Seems like a nice discount, and available for quite a number of months. I believe there are other things with Silver Car, such as a referral sign up bonus and the like, so be sure to check around before booking. (No referrals in the comments here.)

I wonder if they allow people to switch payment methods after the rental. The Amex offer is nice, but the CSR offers a 25% discount and primary insurance. Booking on a premium Visa card and then switching to Amex after the rental would be ideal (assuming no damage/accidents).
Gonna be hard to use with lots of the locations closing, at least the one’s near me (Northern VA).
I rented an Audi from silvercar a few years ago. The price was similar to the competition, but I totally hated the experience.
1. Audi was a gas guzzler, compared to what I typically drive (e.g. Passat);
2. Controls were counter-intuitive with too many gadgets. It’s a waste of time to learn them, when it’s NOT YOUR CAR.
I would not rent from silvercar again, even if it were free.
have you figured out how to operate smartphones yet?
These are hard to get if you are flying. Dealerships can be far away from airports and require pick up by 5pm.
Got a similar offer last year ($100 off $350) and used it organically. While silvercar is generally more expensive than regular rental companies my dates were an exception and I ended with a bill of about $250 (after $100 off by Amex and $40 discount at check out for a minor problem with a car) for 9 days of Q5
Also signed up for primary insurance ($20) but was not actually charged for some reason.
Planning an upcoming road trip so this got me excited. Did get the offer on several cards, too. Then I checked prices… Silver Car would cost me way more after this (even if I manage to split tender on two cards and get $200 back) than if I rented a comparable luxury car/SUV from a variety of conventional companies.
I know that Silver Car supposedly provides premium service, but personally it’s not gonna be worth it.
Are other companies that rent luxury cars reputable? Asking seriously. I’m trying to determine if the extra money would be worth it.
There are some small reputable ones, I’ve heard. I used Enterprise’s “Exotic” car rental, but it had such limited inventory it was kind of mediocre. Wanted a Model S, but they were out so I got an AMG E53, which, while a fine performance car, is not really what I think of when someone says “exotic”.
Reality is the depreciation and maintenance on actual exotics is so insanely high you’re looking at either sky high prices, mile caps and/or inventory that been beat up well past the intended life and/or sketchy practices.
you don’t think of an Audi either when someone says “exotic”.
Agreed. You’d still be looking at Enterprise’s Exotic location for anything performance related from Audi though.
Looks like you can also combine this coupon code FIRST20 for 20% off if you are a first time user.
Targeted now. Too bad I wasn’t when I had a Silvercar rental back in February when the offer existed then.
DoC, also probably worth mentioning primary vs secondary insurance and that you can pay $20 on an Amex for primary.
