AmEx Pre-Qual Offering Some People 150,000 Points On American Express Platinum

The Offer

You can check your Amex Prequalified offers here. Could also make sense to try checking CardMatch for pre-approved offers (see our original post here).

  • American Express personal Platinum card of 150,000 points after $6,000 in spend within the first three months when checking their prequalified offers.
  • 10x points per $1 spent when you Shop Small in the U.S. and restaurants worldwide on up to $25,000 in spend within your first six months

Card Benefits

  • Annual fee of $695 is not waived the first year
    • Authorized Platinum cards are $175 for three user (then $175 per Platinum)
    • Authorized Gold cards are free
    • Full details here
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5x points per $1 spent on purchases made with airlines or with American Express Travel
    • 5x points per $1 spent on hotel & airline bookings made directly from the American Express travel website
    • 1x points on all other purchases
  • $200 airline incidental credit per calendar year
  • $200 Uber credit ($15 per month and additional $20 in December)
  • $100 Saks Credit (two $50 credits)
  • Lounge access:
    • Centurion lounge access
    • International American Express lounge access
    • Delta SkyClub lounge access
    • Priority pass select membership
    • Airspace lounge access
  • $240 digital entertainment credit. This is a credit of $20 per month and can be used on Peacock, Audible, SiriusXM and The New York Times.
  • $200 hotel credit. This can be used on select prepaid bookings (Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection) when using American Express Travel
  • $179 Clear credit
  • $300 Equinox credit. This is a $25 credit each month
  • Global Dining Access by Resy
  • The Global Lounge Collection

Our Verdict

The Resy deal is 25k less points, but you earn 15x instead of 10x. If you’re in two player mode then you’ll be better off using a referral if you have the 45,000 referral offer. So many different variations of this Platinum offer at the moment. Will add this to the best credit card bonuses.

Typo: Your text says spend in 3 mo and 10x for 6 mo, but the screenshot says spend in 6 mo.

I agree, the new perks are super targeted. I imagine their strategy team is specifically rolling out added perks to target individuals who are high-earners in big cities that belong to Equinox and subscribe to the NY Times. Seems like such a small, specific target audience.

They are making the offers too complicated to maximize benefits. Thumbs down

Whenever I check with my p2’s information, it leads me to the login page and she has an account with amex. I tried checking with my mother’s information and she was targetted for the 150k bonus and she doesn’t have an account with amex

Did you try the misspelled name hack?

iIRC you can pre-check on Cardmatch with a misspelled name (also use a different browser incognito). Then apply through the link and get it that way.

Maybe somebody here can give a recent DP if it is still working or point to the thread with DP. SpicyPadThai

For someone with a brand new credit history, is an amex plat feasible?

Amex charge cards are easier to get than their credit cards. If you get a prequalified offer you should be good to go

I wouldn’t start with the plat. You want your earlier cards to be credit cards you will hold on to for a long time or at least cards you can product change to something you can hold on to for a long time to help up the average ag of your accounts and increase your credit score.

It really makes no difference if it is the first card or the second card that a person gets is the long term holder. If the offer is big enough, and a person can qualify, the Amex Plat is worth getting first.
