Bank of America & MLB End Partnership

Bank of America has sent out a letter to existing Major League Baseball (MLB) cardholders stating that their Major League Baseball Customized Cash Rewards credit card will become a Bank of America Unlimited Cash Rewards card (some people are being converted to the Customized Cash Rewards credit card, this has the same rewards program as the MLB card) because the partnership between BofA & MLB has ended. Existing cardholders will receive their new card in the middle of March. The Unlimited card earns 1.5% back on all purchases, whereas the old card earned 3%/2% in select categories and 1% back on all other purchases.

Bank of America has been MLB’s official bank since 2004, although it has had the credit card portfolio since before then. MLB is expected to announce a new banking partnership before the start of the season. Because BofA is converting cardholders to a BofA product it’s clear the new banking partner has not purchased the back book from BofA.

Ugh, they changed this over before sending the new cards. Fortunately, I noticed it before I had spent too much at my 5% category (restaurants).

Did anyone who was switched to the UCR call before the changeover to ask to be moved to a CCR instead? Did it work? I never called, but should have and probably will now. The UCR card is useless to me since I have a Premium Rewards card.

To avoid UCR conversion, we called BofA in January and PC’ed MLB into CCR for both P1 and P2. Received the new CCRs in February.

Will below offer come when MLB is replacement with CCR card?

BoFA CCR has “$200 bonus cash rewards if you use your new credit card account to make any combination of purchase transactions totaling at least $1,000”

Very unlikely. Conversions never get the new cardholder offer.

Churner Are you saying your MLB was converted to a new card and still got the bonus offer as if you were a new applicant? Did your MLB get converted to UCR or CCR?
Is your bonus offer mentioned in the welcome letter you received with the converted card?
It is odd because I specially called and asked about this and BofA rep said it doesn’t come with the bonus as this is a product change.

Thanks Churner
Received the same insert today so I too can confirm the same in a way this is good. Sadly BofA didn’t have the correct information .
Does anyone know if BofA allows reducing cash advance limit ?

I have 1 MLB, 2 other CCR-type, 1 BBR, 1 TR, 1 PR, and the MLB is changing to regular CCR.

P2 has 2 MLB, 2 other CCR-type, 2 BBR, and the 2 MLB are changing to 1 regular CCR and 1 UCR.

I’m not sure how they decide this, but I saw 2 other posters with 3 or 4 MLBs each got just 1 CCR, and the rest UCRs, so maybe the algorithm for multiple MLBs is simply to give 1 CCR, and the rest UCRs.

Another possibility is that P2’s MLB changing to UCR had little use, so maybe low use ones got changed to UCR. Anyway, we’ll just go with it, and hopefully there’s a bonus for forced product changes.

I product changed from a useless Alaska airlines platinum visa to this. I specifically requested the dodgers branded card but got the MLB black one and they could not fix it and advised me to apply again for the dodgers card which of course I didn’t. They told me that I was supporting the whole MLB and not some single team. The card got better with time with better looking design and with the 3.3% online purchasing category. Glad it’s not changing to one of those 1.5x cards.

It makes no sense for BofA to move MLB cardholders to the UCR card, when the MLB card is practically a CCR card. Why not move the MLB cardholders to the WWF CCR card?

After checking the last statements for 2 MLBs (3-2-1) of P1 and P2, sadly I found they are going to be converted to Ultimate Cash Rewards (1.5%) in March 2022. As a preventive strategy, I called BofA to product change both the MLBs into regular CCRs (3-2-1); it will take 2-4 weeks to get the new cards.

Since the MLB/CCR has been always useful in my household, before BofA makes any other changes to the program, P2 applied for another new CCR (3-2-1) and just got approved. It will take 7-10 days to get the new card.

losing 3% CB categories 🙁 with this change…any idea if we can request to convert to some other card type instead of custom cash back ? So can retain 3% option.

Customized Cash Rewards is the one with 3% categories. Unlimited Cash Rewards does not have 3% categories.

It also affects the Express Yourself debit cards. BofA offers a myriad of cobranded debit cards. In 2008, BofA heavily advertised the Express Yourself (at the time called My Expressions) MLB banking. I received on my December checking statement a notice that indicated that as of 5 January 2022, there would be no more mention of the MLB and by March I will receive a plain BofA debit mastercard.
As far as the MLB credit card, I have seen reports of the card becoming just a Customized Cash Rewards mastercard and some have stated they were told their card was changing to the 1.5% card.

I called them just now. They said they are not sending out any new cards and that we can continue to use our WWF cards as before. It is just that they no longer have the partnership with WWF and the organization will no longer receive any benefits from our account. That’s it.
