Barclays has updated the eligibility rules for credit card sign up bonuses. A sample of the new terms on the Wyndham Business card state (emphasis ours):
From time to time, we may offer bonuses of Points or other incentives to new Wyndham Rewards Earner Business primary cardmembers in connection with an application for a new card account. These bonuses and/or incentives are intended for applicants who are not and have not previously been Wyndham Rewards Earner Business primary cardmembers. You understand and agree that you may no longer be eligible for any bonuses and/or incentives in connection with a new Wyndham Rewards Earner Business card account after this Card Account is opened. If you receive a bonus or incentive for which you are not eligible due to your status as a current or former Wyndham Rewards Earner Business primary cardmember, we may revoke the bonus or incentive, or reduce your Points by the amount of the bonus or incentive, or charge your Card Account for the fair value of the bonus or incentive, in our sole discretion.
This language seems to indicate that Barclays has moved to a once per lifetime model, similar to American Express. From what I’ve been able to find out this language was added in at least October 2020, but possibly even before that. It doesn’t look like this language is being enforced or affecting the unofficial 6/24 rule as well.

The BIG scary thing in this rule change is the bank saying they have the ability to CHARGE your card, after the fact for points they believe you are not entitled to. So, let’s say that their RAT team is unable to “claw back” AA points from an Advantage Card bonus because you spent them already.. Which both the business and personal cards are the easiest to earn. They are now saying that they can CHARGE your card for the value they believe the points were worth….which can be whatever they think. And if you don’t pay them, they will ruin your credit and turn you over to a collection agency. That is a threat for sure. And let’s say that you think you can beat the system by closing your card……well, they can still add a charge after your card is closed. This is really dangerous language if you ask me. The Barclays AA cards have been the most easily “churn-able” cards out there for years and I have taken advantage of that for sure. You can get a card with 60,000 miles bonus on AA and turn that into a one way business ticket to Japan on JAL metal worth up to $4k-$8K easy. Of course, they should do their homework up front with a program that identifies people who have had the card before and keep churning, like me. But, they don’t want to invest in that, so now they simply print the threat!
I have had the Wyndham cards on and off, but not a favorite program. For decades I cycled tons of Delta Am Ex cards and flew them as well. But, their lifetime language always catches me now. I hate to see them going to lifetime, especially on the AA cards……which I have also cycled for tons of AA miles, along with Citi versions. That would be a bummer.
Jeff Did you happen to cycle Citi business AA card?
Using 2 EINs? Or just waiting it out, to open the 2nd one?
I got approved for the Wyndham Visa earner+ cc for a 45k bonus after $1000 spend. This is inspite of having a Wyndham card about 3/4 years ago. The annual fee is only due after a year.
Any data point on getting off Barclays naughty list? Got shut down in 2016, tried applying in 2018, 2019, and 2020, all denied due to unsatisfactory relationship.
Lord Dima Curious, what did you get shut down for Diman?
I want my Uber visa back
I have a feeling I know what Jordan is gonna say about this.
?
Barclays being Barclays. My SO works there, so I have nothing to say.
Tell her to quit and become pro MSer with you. 😄
No don’t quit, we need insider information.
This board is sick of you. Go fuck yourself
Garbage bank makes garbage rule that may or may not be enforced. Standing headline.
Curious to see DP’s on enforcement for Barclays arrival double dip.
1. Add lifetime restrictions to your credit card bonuses
2. wait a few years
3. hire AMEX RAT
4. claw back years of bonuses
5. profit
Until they do enforce it but by then hopefully they don’t go back in time and claw back everyone’s points. I’ve never been approved for a Barclays card since 2016 for AA and Hawaiian and been blacklisted for whatever reason since.
You’re probably over 6/24
