Direct link to offer

    • $50 when you open a GO savings account
    • $50 when you open a GO checking account

The Fine Print

  • Please allow 3- 6 weeks for bonus to be deposited into your Excite account
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

Neither of these accounts has a monthly fee to worry about

Early Account Termination Fee

I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if an EATF is charged or not

Our Verdict

Doesn’t look like there are any requirements to trigger either bonus. Not sure if it’s a hard/soft pull and if you can fund with a credit card or not. Go savings account also earns 5% APY, but looks like it has a number of requirements to earn that rate.

Go Savings
This account establishes your Ownership in Alliance Credit Union. A bonus dividend rate of 5% APY is paid on the first $2,500 balance in the account for the first 12 months beginning on the date the account is opened.

Requires eStatements, six (6) debit card transactions per month and a minimum of $500 directly deposited to your account each month.

For our Go Checking Account the dividend period is monthly. The Dividend Rate and Annual Percentage Yield as of the most recent dividend declaration date are reflected as follows:

The Daily Balance method is used to calculate dividends on the account. This method applies a daily periodic rate to the principal in the account each day. Dividends begin to accrue on the business day you make a deposit. Dividends are compounded daily and posted monthly on the last day of the month.

There are two tiers of dividends paid on the Go Checking Account, the Premium Rate and the Standard Rate:

1. the Premium Rate will be paid on balances up to $20,000;

2. the Standard Rate will be paid on balances over $20,000

Please note: Payment of dividends requires the account to have 6 posted debit card transactions and receive a minimum direct deposit of $500 into the Go Checking per statement period and be set up for eStatements.

Go Savings doesn’t seem to have any requirements to get the 5% for the first year. The condition “Requires eStatements, six (6) debit card transactions per month and a minimum of $500 directly deposited to your account each month.” seems to be for Go-Checking Account to get the Premium Rate.

You appear to be correct. This is the page for the checking: https://www.excitecu.org/save/checking/go-checking

Talks about the requirements. Here’s the page for the savings:

https://www.excitecu.org/save/savings/go-savings

No talk of requirements.

Worth noting the 5% is still only for the first year, after that it goes down to the “dividend rate” which is currently 0.10%.

Can fund with a credit card up to $2,500 total when opening accounts. Opened today and didn’t have any issues. I live in Santa Clara County, so this should be an easy $100.

How was that cc funding split between checking and savings? Coded as purchase? On what kind of card? Was about to go for this one but with that much initial funding I should open a new Ink Preferred to put it on first!

Soft Pull? Also what card did you use?

Onyxi

mattl

is the 2.25% the premium rate and up to $20,000 and then the standard rate or is it the same at $2,500. don’t see any mention of the $20,000 on their website

Got this message after submitting, “Just so you know, your application was sent to one of our friendly employees for review. We’ll be in contact within 24 hours and may have additional questions to get your membership finalized.”

I live in San Mateo county so not sure what the issue was. Also wasn’t able to cc fund with Amex.

$100 isn’t too EXCITE-ing lol

In addition to $100, you get a $75 bonus on the $2500 in savings if you leave it there for a year (compared to a 2% savings account), and at least 2% credit card rewards on $2500 which is $50 tax free. So a $225 bonus just for filling out an application is somewhat exciting.

Opened account online. Live & work in Santa Cruz county. Asked for proof of residence. (paystub/utility bill). Setting up online banking and linking external accounts was simple. Overall, extremely efficient process.

Did not fund with CC though.

Called Chase to set my CIP cash advance limit to 0, opened account online, and approved after providing proof of residency (I live in San Mateo County). Funded $1500 to checking and $1000 to savings, charges showed up later in the day, and posted several days later as a purchase. Helped take care of a huge chunk of my minimum spend and free $100 to boot, thanks DoC!

Opening deposit posts as a purchase with Bank of America Cash Rewards MC. Also counts as Online Shopping.

Opening deposits appear to post as purchase on Citi Doublecash, namely that they have fully posted to the card (doesn’t show as pending anymore) without a cash advance fee.

Anyone else having to go in to a branch to verify ID and the credit card used to fund? They put a hold on my initial funds, and the nearest branch is an hour or two away if you’re in the far parts of Monterey or Alameda counties. What a pain.

I have a Permanent Hold on my savings account but not on checking. Is this the same for you?

Opened accounts on 1/7 with $50 opening deposit.

ACH $2450 from Chase to Savings on 1/10.

Noticed an available balance of $-5 today with a Permanent Hold description. CU is closed until the morning. Checking account has $25 with no such remarks.

“Permanent Hold” on both for me. They sent me a welcome email with a docx attachment (so sketchy…) explaining the hold and having to go in person to release it. I did $1500 on checking and $1000 on savings initial funding following Tim’s example, both using a new Ink Preferred. I went back and forth a bit trying to find an alternative with the person who sent the welcome email, who was based in North Carolina. She said she’d contact a manager or someone else who may get back to me tomorrow.

Follow up to my situation:
Went into branch with ID on day 10 after the hold was put on my account, banker was surprised and said she would reach out to online accounts team.

Hold was released on the next business day.

Tim
Tim

Following up – I also have the “permanent hold” on my account so I called them and ended up speaking with someone who was somewhat higher up. He said they’ve received a huge influx of applications and asked where I found out about them, and I said oh the internet but I don’t remember exactly where… 😉 anyway he said this is standard procedure for fraud prevention, and the hold should be automatically released after ~9 days. He was very reasonable so I have hope that this will play out just fine.

tavert

After trying to find an alternative to going in-branch via emails and a phone call or two with the person who sent the welcome message, my “Permanent Hold”s have been changed over to “ACH Origination Hold” which they say should last for 9 days.

My holds have cleared. Full balance available in checking, all but $5 available in savings. Did an internal transfer of all but $0.01 from checking into savings, which went through immediately.

Thank you for coming back and updating

And my $100 bonus shows as pending today.

I have the permanent hold too. Funded $25 to checking and $2,475 to Savings with SW Plus CC and posted as a purchase on 1/3. I had already transferred the money out back to an external account with no issues, so it’s now showing as a $-2,475 in the savings because of the permanent hold. Nothing on the checking… Hoping it all gets taken care of with no issues. And that we still get our $100 bonus!

mattl
mattl

did it get resolved for you?

Michael
Michael

I have still not gotten the hold removed so I am going to contact them today.

Tom
Tom

I saw a “permanent hold” on savings two days ago. I called and they wanted me to come to a branch with credit card and id. After I pushed back on that, they said they would send a request to some department to change to a 9 day hold and call me back the next day. They never called and my account still shows permanent hold.

Tom
Tom

Permanent hold cleared.

mattl
mattl

when does it expire?

Tim
Tim

Final update: the hold finally cleared today! I had another conversation with them late last week and they reassured me that it should clear this week as they were doing a manual review of the new accounts, and they were true to their word. In our conversations they did ask whether I planned to keep the accounts open, and I repeatedly told them yes, which is the truth. I think $2500 CC funding plus 5% APY on the account for a year with zero work on my end is actually a great deal and will be opening an account for P2 in the coming days.
