Chase Business Marriott ISN’T Affected By Chase 5/24

When we first broke the news that Chase had extended their 5/24 rule to more cards, we thought that all Chase Marriott cards were affected by this new rule. If you look at the comments of that post and were other datapoints were being shared you’ll likely notice a lot of approvals for the Chase Marriott Business card. A few days ago my friend at US Credit Card Guide also pointed out this trend . Originally I thought this might be due to the increased bonus of 100,000 points on this card (now expired), but decided to double check with my source at Chase.

They confirmed that it only applies to the Chase Marriott personal card, I have no idea why this is the case. It might be due to the fact that spending on business cards is likely higher than personal cards, or that Marriott wanted to ensure business owners had access to this card regardless of how many new accounts they’ve had. If you want to read more about the Chase 5/24 rule, I’d recommend reading this in depth post.

As mentioned this card previously had a sign up bonus of 100,000 points, but this has now expired. Here is a brief overview of the card:

  • Annual fee of $99 is not waived
  • Sign up bonus of 80,000 points after $3,000 in spend
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 5x points per $1 spent at Marriott & Ritz Carlton locations
    • 2x points per $1 spent on airline tickets purchased directly with the Airline, at car rental agencies and at restaurants
    • 1x points per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Anniversary bonus of a free night certificate for a category 1-5 property.
  • 15 credits towards Elite membership after approval and every year after account anniversary
  • 1 elite credit for every $3,000 spent
  • Marriott gold status after $50,000 in spend
  • No foreign transaction fees

Just approved. I’m at like 50+/24. It went 7-10 pending for a couple days. Then the automated phone number said I was approved and got welcome email the next day.

I got the Marriott Business card in June 2016 and I was at 8/24. The 100,000 bonus points showed up in my Marriott account as soon as the statement closed after I met the $5k spend.

I believe you cannot have the Ritz card and personal Marriott card at the same time, but do you know if you can have the Ritz card and a Marriott business card?

I believe you’re thinking of the rewards program. You can’t be a member of both – you have to pick which one you want.

Any data points on Chase matching the 100K bonus for the Marriott Business?

So only non-expired offers can be matched after 90 days of application/approval?

I am seeing conflicting information about the British Airways card, which will likely be my last Chase for a while. Your site says it’s not affected by 5/24. Flyertalk’s wiki says it is affected (or more exactly that it’s not of the cards that is not affected):

I haven’t seen a lot of datapoints on people who are over 5/24 applying (successfully or not) for the BA card since 5/24 was broadened to most co-branded cards. Any specific info about that?

Thanks, didn’t notice that listing. Gives me comfort I should.be good to go with the BA card. Don’t really need hotels points so that will be my last Chase card for a while.

Whew, glad I applied earlier this week. I did get the “call in as soon as possible” message.
Do you recommend calling or waiting it out?

I got the same message (when I applied a month ago) and called in and did a weird verify-my-phone number thing and then was approved. No detailed about my business or anything. Strange stuff.

I can confirm that I got this card and am way, way over 5/24. Auto-approved
