[Expired] Giant, Stop&Shop, Martin’s: 2x Fuel Points on Visa Gift Cards Next Week [5/25-5/31]

This deal has expired, view similar deals here.

The Offer

Stop&ShopGiantMartin’s (page 11 – next week’s ad, not yet showing)

  • Get 2x fuel points on the purchase Visa gift cards at Giant, Stop&shop, and Martin’s.

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.

Image from https://www.howtoshopforfree.net/stop-shop-ad-scan-3/

The Fine Print

  • Valid 5/25/18 – 5/31/18
  • Must use store card to get and use the points
  • Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
  • “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”

Gas Points Details

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.

  • Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
  • You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
  • Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
  • Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.

Our Verdict

Not as good as the 4x offers they sometimes have, but still not bad at all. Readers have said they enjoy the heads-up so we’ll post now and repost when it goes live. This week (5/18-5/24) there’s a similar deal but on Mastercard gift cards – beginning Friday (5/25) starts the Visa deal.

These Stop&shop/Giant deals stack well with today’s T-Mobile Tuesday’s savings at Shell. You can bring down the  cost further by utilizing the Fuel Rewards program (assuming you have the accounts linked). You can get at least $.05 additional discount, plus so many other deals like card-link deal at the grocery (though reports are this hasn’t been working lately), and this Chase Pay deal.

Use Freedom or Discover to max out the quarterly categories, or use any other card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.

It can be done but only in the physical store you bought it. Other stores won’t and phone customer service can’t.

Thanks much. Just got back from the store I bought the VGC. The lady added the points, already showing on my account.

Is Giant short for Giant Eagle or is there another similarly named grocery store in PA?

Giant is not affiliated with Giant Eagle. Giant-Carlisle, Giant-Landover,Martins and Stop&Shop are owned by Ahold-Delhaize.

Maybe next time Ann and Nick can put some effort into providing the Ad scans and images on Flyertalk for the S&S Fuel Points Deals on VGCs and MCGCs instead of running here to claim them as their own find. At least when I post them I link the images to the sites that post the ad scans for us.

There’s very little chance they sent you an image with the exact screenshot cropped to that size and angle. It’s the image I posted on FT. I don’t really care where it gets used, but someone requested proof of the VGC Fuel Points deal and I took the time to provide it so it’s annoying when someone takes the image and pawns it off as their on another site. It’s stuff like this that makes people not want to be helpful anymore.

With a $6.95 fee on a $500 card you only profit $3.05.
Is this correct?

It’s a $5.95 fee. Or think of it as $500 gift card = 1000 points = $1.00 off/gal. (up to 20 gal)

So $20 – 5.95 = $14 gas savings per gift card.

  Al

Thanks Al I’m really bad at math.
So, you profit more the bigger your gas tank but still good of MSing since you are killing two birds with one stone.

Yup I think of it as a money making way to MS or hit MSR.

You can also buy a 5 gallon gas can to store a little more if you don’t reach 20 gallons. My car takes 16 gal. so I fill my can with 4 gallons to stretch the savings a little further haha

I would not take their $1 off gas as a real competitive $1 as they advertise since Shell is more expensive than Costco in my area by about 10%….unless you have got on the Shell GC deals which on average are at least 10% off at BB or other places when on sale (last time I stocked up on the Amex Sync + BOGO10GC for a net of 20% off the Shell cards which makes Shell actually a better price than Costco even without the S&S deals).

I too have a small gas tank and usually wont be able to fill 20 gal before my points expired and used to skip these deals, but….. “Investing” in one or more gas cans has proved lucrative since these deals seem to come pretty often enough now. I have recovered cost of gas cans within the first month.

As mentioned, fee is $5.95 per card up to $500 load. At Giant in PA, limit is 25 gallons so profit/free gas is greater. Pay with a card earning at least 1.2% cashback to break even on rewards not including benefit of the gas itself. Each $500 card gets you $1.00 off per gallon so up to $25 in savings per fill-up there. No limit on discount so gas can be completely free.

I haven’t even used my 5% on Freedom card since I’m trying to meet MSR on new card sign ups. I would love the free gas and can buy the GCs but I don’t have a way to liquidate them.

Yep that’s always the problem. I’m still looking for a pajama liquidation route myself. For now I stick to low volume MO.

How are you getting MOs ?
I heard that Matabank GCs are not being accepted by POs (apparently there was a memo not to accept any GCs).
Do they work at Grocery stores?

Yeah grocery stores. The meta will work at Walmart too. PO is hardcoded not to accept.

If you can max out the 20 gallon fill every time, each 1x Fuel point is 2% back in fuel. These deals are fantastic – 4% cash on top of whatever rewards you earn with the card of your choice, as long as you need that much gas.

Nice image you have there. Looks EXACTLY like my screenshot from the ad scan I posted on flyertalk the day before this hit your site. Ann and Nick really working hard for those hat tips I see.
