Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer from August 27th – September 2nd:
- Get 3x fuel points on the purchase Mastercard gift cards.
- Get 10x points on Apple gift cards.
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon (max $1.50 discount in most). Points can be used at partner Shell locations.
Points are now usable on groceries as well, with a value of 100 points equaling a $1 discount.
- You have 30 days to select whether you want to use the points on gas or groceries, then 30 days to actually use them.

- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
Our Verdict
Given that points can be used to discount groceries as well these deals are more widely useful. Use a card that earns a bonus at the grocery.
Note, many SS/Giant stores have implemented a $2,000 limit in gift card purchases each day (previously the limit was $5,000). They also require putting it all on a single card. Also note, some SS/Giant stores now only award points for the first purchase of the deal, so be sure to buy the full $2,000 worth in a single transaction.
Did not receive any points from mcgc. Bought 3 . Now customer service call . Waste of time
bought apple gc and mgc together in MA today, did not receive points from MGC purchase. In addition, the system can only allow to buy three gc, not the 4th one. today is the last day for this promotion, do not have time to max out this deal.
Wondering if anyone is having an issue buying these using a Citibank MC (specifically the Shop Your Way MC). Every time we try, it gets declined. Enough credit line, have made larger purchases. Have called Citi while in store and it can take 5 times maybe to get it to work. In the past, we just purchased a $500 card + fee – we have not tried buying something more or less). They say that its because we are buying a MC Gift Card. Makes no sense. Just trying to see other’s experiences. I know I can use a different card but right now, we get 10% back on the MC on grocery purchases….
Stop and Shop really messed this up as NO points are posting for the Mastercard purchases. I purchased one on Friday and one on Monday and neither one posted any points. Finally, today (Tuesday) I called customer service. At first the person tried to tell me you could only get the bonus points for 1 purchase but I pointed her to page 7 where the ad in the circular clearly says you can earn bonus points on up to $2,000 in gift cards, per week. She agreed with me and I had to give her my receipt numbers and she posted the points to my account. I spent a half hour on the phone.
So yes, you are going to have to call in if you want your points posted. Someone at stop and shop forgot to program it properly this week.
Funny story – so i bought one dozen of eggs along with two 500 MGCs today. No 3x points shown up on the receipt, only 2 points for the egg. Kind of expected. Went straight to the help desk and the staff was so generous to offer to add 3×2 = 6 points to my account. She firmly said that it’s 3x no matter what from the grocery….not the GC amount…….Had a really hard time trying to convince her it’s 3x GCs………..
she’s not knowledgeable. Not every staff understands the terms of the promotion on gas points. ask someone else. i went to ask another staff today at the counter and she could manually add that for me by showing her the receipt
In fairness, given that gift cards usually generate zero points 3x is still zero.
yea, so frustrating. She said thats how she read the terms and even tried to pursuade the store manager. I’ve decided to call once the 24hr passes.
That’s ridiculous! Did you show them the ad, or the sign that is likely on the display? How do they explain the up to $2,000 wording? Did they think it was up to that amount of groceries? You should complain to corporate about that as well, since they need to be told that the store doesn’t understand how these work.
Thank you! Yes, i pointed her to the printed cricular in the store and the right page and the right section, and that’s really her interpretation after reading it. I responded with the same question then why do you think the $2000 is there for? She’s like thats the limit for every store, one can only purchase 2k gcs….With her logic, one can get $5 gcs and buy 5000x groceries and get 3x out of it……I’ve learnt my lesson, just call next time.
I had to call and get the points added. The number is 877-366-2668. The store employee tried but was not able to add 1500 points, it wouldn’t let her add that many. Don’t call right away because they cannot see the transaction immediately. I bought at 5pm yesterday, and it’s now around 21 hours later and at first they couldn’t find it, but it turns out it was their system being slow.
After you called and they added the points how long did it take to see them? I called and they said they added and to wait 24 hours. Its onlly 6 hours now, but will be good to get the DP here.
I saw them within a few minutes. I had to close the app and restart it to see them. It did not see them automatically.
Thanks for the DP. The CS rep I had initially spoken to added my points into a Giant account by the same number instead of S&S. I called again today at about the 20 hour mark and just as I was being told to call back after another 4 hours they noticed the error and corrected it. Two wrongs did not make it right. Needed a third right.
The store people, at my store at least, can only add 500 points at a time. They will add 500 three times on a promotion like this when it doesn’t post.
points have not yet posted even after 24 hours. First time for me this happening. Checked store flyer and also verified that receipt has my card number. Still no points. This purchase was made during travel to MA though I see NY also in the same boat.

Did you purchase only the MGCs or did you also grab sth in grocery? I recall someone mentioned this point before, but not sure if it would make a difference w/ points posting.
It used to be that the points did not print on the receipt if only buying the gift card but showed up within 30 minutes. I purchased something else this time and the points did not show up on the receipt, nor have they shown up in the hours since then. Maybe I’ll stop back at the store later today to get them added.
Points have NOT posted, more than 24 hours after purchase at S&S in MA.
