[Expired] Giant, Stop&Shop, Martin’s: 3x Fuel Points on Visa Gift Cards (11/27-12/3)

Deal has expired, view more Giant deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Stop&ShopGiantMartin’s (this offer is showing for Martin’s; I don’t see it in the others, but reportedly it’s working there too)

  • Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their upcoming circular for November 27 – December 3: Get 3x fuel points on the purchase Visa gift cards.

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.

Gas Points Details

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon (max $1.50 discount in most). Points can be used at partner Shell locations.

Points are now usable on groceries as well, with a value of 100 points equaling a $1 discount.

  • You have 30 days to select whether you want to use the points on gas or groceries, then 30 days to actually use them.
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.

Our Verdict

3x is nice. Fuel points can be used to discount groceries as well, making these deals more widely useful. Use a card that earns a bonus at the grocery.

Note: many SS/Giant stores have implemented a $2,000 limit in gift card purchases each day (previously the limit was $5,000). They also require putting it all on a single card.

Chuck  William Charles Stop & Shop is advertising 4x points on VGCs (12/11-12/17). During the same time period is 10x on Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s (for the second week in a row), as well as 10x on Giving Good and Happy Holidays GCs.

Converted Rewards to gas station points, I thought it would extend the expiration date, but the gas points are all expired very soon. Not sure why.

Same as others, 3x points were not advertised in the weekly circular, but I did earn the 3x points on VGC today at S&S (MA). The circular only advertised the 15x points on Brinker, Happy Moments, and Google Play. The gift card rack at the store today though did have a sign for the Visa deal and also showed Bath & Body Works as an additional brand for 15x points. Bath & Body Works DID NOT end up earning the 15x points. I normally always try to check my receipt before leaving for gas points but managed to forget this time.

Next week’s S&S sale (12/4-12/10) isn’t too exciting. 10x points on 8 different GCs: American Eagle, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela’s, Chipotle, Express, Gap Options, Outback, and SpaFinder. A lot of people are probably swimming in gas/grocery points by now, so it doesn’t matter too much anyways.

So far, all three of S&S’s holiday GC promotions have been downgrades compared to last year. Last year was a $20 coupon with $100 3rd party GCs (compared to a $25 coupon with $150 3rd party GCs this year). Then their 15x points promotion was on Lowe’s, Kohl’s, Disney, & Happy Moments. Then the 10x point promo had a slightly better variety with 12 different GC brands to choose from.

Worked in NJ today. Though not in the weekly circular, it was posted prominently in the GC area. Since the time they converted to Go points, the points do not show on the receipt. Have to check app to verify.

Worked fine in Maryland at Giant. It was in the local Martin’s ad, but not the Giant ad. However, there was signage at the Giant store that said 3X points for visa gift cards. Points posted on the receipt.

My local ad did not have this in it, but it still worked for me, I live in Boston. It didn’t show on the receipt, but when I checked in my Shell Fuel Rewards app, it shows my points

It works at stop and stop in NYC. Points actually took around 5-10 mins to be posted on account though

Have a BIG DP update on filling up at Shell (this is in NJ): Used to be 20 gallons max; yesterday it said 35 gallons fuel limit when filling up – I could not make use of it all but did fill up to 24 gallons as I had a spare can indicating it actually is working! Not sure if this is a holiday promo or here to stay, but if you have max points (or any fuel rewards points) to redeem be prepared for 35 gallons if you can make use of it.

I have 2 different Giant reward accounts, I received the 35 gallons on non flexible points reward account.

but only received 20 gallons on flixible point reward account.

Is your account a flexible point acocunt or not?

this is in MD.

I’m not sure what is flexible and what is not. Here in NJ all S&S were converted to Go Rewards a few months back and since then we have the option to assign the points either for gas or grocery within 30 days of earning and then a further 30 days to use them after assignment.

On Long Island, points didn’t show on receipt, but they showed up on next receipt shortly thereafter. On Friday, I had a weird GO Points experience. Ducked into S&S for one $2.79 item, and got a 1000 point bonus. I have no idea why.

Does anyone know if Stop and Shop has L2 or L3 data for Amex?

Yes. And so do not buy gift cards with AE or US bank credit cards

Yes to L3 I assume? Where do you recommend buying gift cards with AE

Just my personal DP, I have the Amex Blue Cash Preferred which pays 6% back at grocery stores. Over 80% of the grocery shopping done on the card over the past four years has been gift cards (mostly visa/mastercard gift cards) and they have always paid the 6%. I have read that if you are working on a welcome bonus that they will not count that spending if it is on gift cards as they deem them ‘cash equivalents.’ As always YMMV.
