The Offer

No direct link to offer. If you use a Wells Fargo ATM with a non Wells Fargo debit card you should see the offer. Must be opened in branch

  • Receive a sign up bonus of $200 when you open a new Everyday checking account with Wells Fargo and complete the following requirements:
    • Complete 10 debit card purchases within 45 days of account opening
    • Complete another 10 debit card purchases for another two months

The Fine Print

  • You cannot be a recipient of a consumer checking bonus in the past 12 months (limit one per customer)
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

The Everyday Checking account comes with a $10 monthly fee. Get the fee waived with one of the following:

  • 10 debit card purchases and/or payments each statement cycle from this checking account, OR
  • Direct deposits totaling $500 or more each statement cycle, OR
  • Maintain a $1,500 minimum daily balance, OR
  • Link checking account to a Wells Fargo Campus ATM or Campus Debit Card

If you have a Wells mortgage, you might be able to get a higher-level account with no fees.

Early Account Termination Fee

There is no early account termination fee.

Our Verdict

There is an online offer for $200, that does require a direct deposit (this offer is currently expired, but it comes around semi regularly). That being said Wells Fargo isn’t too strict on what does/doesn’t count. Personally I think that other offer is probably better as only one direct deposit is required and it can be done online, but some readers will prefer this offer. If you’re going into a Wells Fargo branch don’t forget there is a $500 business checking bonus as well and you can also grab the Wells Fargo Business Platinum card for another $500 at the same time. I’ll add this $200 bonus to the best checking sign up bonus page.

Gonna withdraw cash next time from WF just to read the fine print on this. Want to see their language about previous accounts/bonuses.

Oops, correction: Expires 1/15/2019. Current consumer checking customer or those who have received a consumer checking bonus in the last 12 months are not eligible. Bonus will be deposited within 45 days after meeting requirements. I’m still holding out for the $250 one they ran two years ago.

Is there no time based limit on when you can reopen an account (eg can’t get bonus if you received one within a year)?

I just stopped by and took a few bucks out of the ATM and can confirm that the bonus offer is on the receipt, and even if you accidentally go on autopilot and hit “no receipt” they still ask you if you’d like to get the information about the bank account printed after you receive your cash.

teebeetoo – Any info on whether the receipts contains details or has language on the “one bonus per year” rule?

Yes. It says ” You cannot be a recipient of a consumer checking bonus in the past 12 months (limit one per customer)”

Thank you sir.

Doc the “online offer” you linked in the “Our Verdict” section expired yesterday. When I click through and begin to apply it says it’s no longer available.

is there a fee to use WellsFargo ATM to check balance from a non-WellsFargo ATM card?

Bizarre DP:

I used one of these offers some months ago, opening the account in the branch.

Wells Fargo, what could go wrong?

A few weeks later I was wondering why there was no Social Security deposit showing in the Chase account where I had direct deposit of SS.

You can see where this is going, right?

Wells Fargo had changed my direct deposit to the new WF account, despite my not having discussed this or agreed to it. In fact, I had, among the papers received in the account opening folder, a form which I could have used in the future if I wanted to change my DD.
According to a WF executive, who fixed this for me, one of the many tablet screens I was directed to sign was one which authorized the DD to the new account. This was NOT mentioned to me. I left the branch with nothing which would have told me that my DD was being moved. As agreed upon with the executive, I closed the account as soon as the DD moved back to the intended bank and I received the bonus. He assured me that the staff in the branch was being “re-educated” on disclosure responsibilities.

p.s. Because the DD didn’t go to Chase, I paid a fee for that account for a month because it required a certain balance.

Send a secure message to Chase explaining your situation. Mostly likely they will refund that fee out of courtesy.

Since it is on the ATM receipt, it is only for existing customers? Seems they would want to get new customers. First time I have heard of a bank advertising this way for new accounts. I never use an ATM unless overseas, so they would not be looking for me, and I love opening accounts for extra cash.

People who are not WF customers may use a WF ATM…that’s how I got the earlier offer. My main bank – Mechanics Bank – rebates the ATM fees so its customers can use any ATM.

I received bonus in Feb 2017 but closed my account in June 2018 . Am i eligible for the bonus as i received bonus more than 12 months ago ?

Got the offer from an ATM in Indiana. I haven’t been able to break through to Well Fargo opening up accounts online, so I will have to resort to this in branch offer, oh well.

Got the offer, but the requirement for me is 10 debit transactions each month for 3 months. I’m curious if I went to a different WF branch and did the ATM trick if I’d get a different offer as 30 debit transaction is kind of a PITA.

Confirmed – got this offer in southern California, 30 debit transactions in 45-30-30 days after account opening, 10 each month.

I guess you can reload 50 cents on Amazon for 10 times each month. It’s still kinda a PITA

I think the min you can load is $1 on Amazon and I believe this calls for a min of a $1 as well to get the bonus. I did it about 20 times for this. Went to the Dollar Store for the other 10 transactions. I am waiting on the bonus to post. It was a PITA.

Amazon minimum is 50 cents, have done it many many many times.

Weird, it wasn’t for me. Either way, 50 cents won’t do you anything for getting this bonus.

The offer says the minimum transaction amount is $1.

If you have a friend that uses Venmo or Square Cash, you can use send money to them as a option to fulfill the requirement.

William Charles Does 10 Venmo or Square Cash transaction fulfill the 10 transactions which Wellsfargo monthly thing?

I’ve have personally used this method to complete requirements.

I understand that there is no ETF. But do they claw back bonus if I close right after receiving bonus?

Went to a Wells Fargo atm in central NJ and used my Schwab card. Asked for a receipt. No offer

At the ATM I used, the offer is not on the receipt. After finishing the ATM transaction, the touchscreen prompted me whether I want to “print offer” for checking account bonus.

do you need to take cash out or can you just check balance?

Davis, CA: Withdrew cash from WF ATM. No offer on the receipt.
