The Fine Print

  • This offer is not available to current S&T Bank checking customers or those who have closed an S&T Bank checking in the past 12 months.
  • Offer applies to new consumer checking accounts (Checking & Simple, Checking & More, Checking & More with Interest, Checking & Four Stars and Checking & Four Stars with Interest only) opened by 5.11.18*.
  • New accounts will not be eligible for offer if any signer has signing authority on an existing S&T Bank consumer checking account.
  • Signing authority will be defined by the customer name(s) and social security number(s) registered on the account.
  • Offer cannot be combined with any other checking offer and is subject to change or termination without notice.
  • To qualify for the first $100 offer, the new checking account must be opened with a minimum opening balance of $50 between 3.16.18 and 5.11.18 and the following conditions must be met by 6.8.18: (a) at least 10 S&T Bank Visa Debit card purchases (posted and cleared) must be made and (b) enroll in online statements, which will be credited to the eligible account 6.29.18.
  • The additional $100 will be credited to the S&T account on or before 11.12.18 to signify the 6 month anniversary date of the account opening provided the account qualified for the debit card and online statement incentive.
  • The account must remain in good standing (daily ledger balance greater than $10) in order to receive any incentive. If a $50 Refer a Friend incentive was paid out to this account during the promotional period your incentive will then be deducted by that amount.
  • The max incentive you are able to receive during this time period is $200. Subject to 1099 reporting.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

As far as I know there is no early account termination fee, but keep in mind the account needs to be kept open until November 12th to get the full $200 bonus. If you open the checking & simple account there is no monthly fee to worry about.

Our Verdict

This is a really nice bonus, no direct deposit requirement or monthly fee to worry about. Completing ten debit card transactions shouldn’t be difficult for anybody (some suggestions here). Normally having to wait for the full bonus is annoying but given there are no monthly fees it really isn’t too bad. This is definitely going onto our list of the best checking account bonuses.

Big thanks to reader, ChurningFast who let us know. Learn how to find bonuses and contribute to the site here.

Looks like it’s mostly limited to Western PA and OH.
Read the reviews before anyone opens an account with them:

Thanks DoC. Have a Western PA address for a couple more months so applied, approved instantly. $100 on my Citi DC. eStatements already signed up for immediately after applying. Now just to wait for the debit card. Won’t even need to ACH anything with the $100 I have in there now.

I’ll point out in bolder letters that it requires at least $10 minimum balance in the checking account to qualify for incentives. So don’t go and empty it all out before 11/12/18…

didnt work for me

I’m in PA.

I’m from Pittsburgh. Got same msg.

Same

Also got the same msg and am in Pittsburgh. i just tried calling them since the offer is so easy and i was told that “the online application department is not in yet”. They are supposed to be calling me back later and I’ll post an update if they do. Perhaps they just need some identify verification?

Weird. I’m in Pittsburgh and didn’t get any requests for verification.

No problem opening for me. I live in Ohio. Thanks Doc!

I’m in Southeastern PA. Account successfully created and funded w/ Citi Doublecash.

My wife was rejected for not being a US citizen, despite having a green card.

“U.S. citizenship is required to open a new account online. Unfortunately, we cannot complete your application because you are not a U.S. citizen”

They called me and said I’m too far out of service area and would be closing my account and refunding CC charge

I ilive in Philadelphia and the same thing happened to me.

I open the account and even started to link an external account. And then three days later they called me and said they could not open the account because I’m outside of the 25 mile radius from a branch.

So now I have a manager that supposed to call me back and answer how they’re going to reverse the ChexSystems inquiries and compensate me for my time since they didn’t build a script into their online web application that would have limited people from outside of certain zip codes. They could have easily done this and avoided a lot of headaches and manual closings. Their IT Department needs some help.

Thank you all for posting. I am also also in Philly area and was going to open account. Seems like it would be a waste of time.

I also got the “Unfortunately, we cannot process your application.” message.

Gave them a call and was told you have to be within 25 miles of a branch.

Hi William Charles — DP, they are chexsensitive… tried applying today, came back rejected because of chexsystem…

Account opened and $100 charge pending on my CFU card. I’m in Northeast PA.

Got the “Unfortunately, we cannot process your application.”

They called me and said they need a copy of driver license and social security card

I live in western PA (~20 miles east of Pittsburgh) and was approved instantly. Received my debit card a few days ago. To be fair, I was also targeted with a mailed flyer for this promotion.
