The Offer
- PNC is offering checking bonuses of up to $400. Both bonuses require the following direct deposits within 60 days of account opening:
- Open a Virtual Wallet Performance Spend and receive $200 with direct deposits totaling $2,000
- Open a Virtual Wallet Performance Select and receive $400 with direct deposits totaling $5,000
- To qualify for the reward, the new Virtual Wallet product must be opened online via the application links on this page and completed with a mobile device between 5/03/2022 to 6/30/2022
The Fine Print
- Offer is contingent on product availability and may vary based on where you open your account and the Zip code of your primary address. For online or phone origination, the Zip code of your primary address will be used to determine product availability. For origination through a PNC location, product availability will be based on the physical PNC location. You may earn a $400 reward if you open a new Virtual Wallet with Performance Select or a $250 reward if you open a new Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend. Changing your product type any time after account opening and prior to the payout of your earned reward, could result in different offer requirements and reward amount.
- To qualify for the reward, the new Virtual Wallet product must be opened online via the application links on this page between 9/21/2021 to 10/31/2021, and a qualifying Direct Deposit(s) must be received within the first 60 days. Your Virtual Wallet product must remain open in order for you to receive the reward, which will be credited to the eligible account within 60–90 days after all conditions have been met and will be identified as “Cash Trans Promo Reward” on your monthly statement.
- A qualifying Direct Deposit for this offer, is defined as a recurring Direct Deposit of a paycheck, pension, Social Security or other regular monthly income electronically deposited by an employer or an outside agency into the Spend account of a Virtual Wallet with Performance Select or Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend. The total amount of all qualifying Direct Deposits credited to your Spend account must be at least $5,000 for Virtual Wallet Performance Select or $2,000 for Virtual Wallet Performance Spend. Credit card cash advance transfers, wire transfers, person to person transfers, transfers from one account to another or deposits made at a physical PNC location or ATM do not qualify as qualifying Direct Deposits.
- New account will not be eligible for offer if any signer has signing authority on an existing PNC Bank consumer checking account or has closed an account within the past 90 days, or has been paid a promotional premium in the past 24 months. If multiple accounts are opened with the same signers, only one account will be eligible for the premium. Trust, Estate and other specialty titled accounts are excluded from this offer. For this offer, signing authority will be defined by the customer name(s) and Social Security number(s) registered on the account. Offer may be extended, modified or discontinued at any time and may vary by market. The value of the reward may be reported on Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 1099, and may be considered taxable income to you. Please consult your tax adviser regarding your specific situation.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Virtual Wallet Checking Pro with Spend ($200 Bonus)
$15 avoidable by 2K DD or 2K average monthly balance
Virtual Wallet With Performance Select $25 Monthly Fee ($400 Bonus)
You can get this fee waived if you meet any of the following:
- Average monthly balance of $5,000 or more
- Qualifying direct deposits of $5,000 or more
- $25,000 in linked eligible account
Early Account Termination Fee
There is an early account termination fee of $25. This is charged if you close your account within 180 days. There is some evidence to suggest that they don’t actually charge this fee, but YMMV.
Our Verdict
Seems similar to the previous PNC deal, but this time the $400 link should be showing for more people. Not sure if this deal is available nationwide or not, but the $400 bonus is as good as it gets from PNC so we will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

denied, ews
I did too back in May, give it about 2-3 months and try again. I signed up today and it worked for me after being denied back in May.
For anyone that linked Schwab to PNC, how did you do it? I don’t like using Plaid, so I usually do it the manual way.
Schwab supports adding linked accounts via account numbers and trial deposits. Since PNC reports to EWS, there is a high chance Schwab will link it without having to do trial deposits, you just need to wait for about a week or longer for PNC to report your new account to EWS before you add it to Schwab.
Thanks.
I always do it manually. Always.
After years of casual churning with my real employer DD (13 or so accounts over the past 5 years), this is the only account that has had a major prenoting delay.
While I suppose the old, conventional wisdom is that it takes 1-2 biweekly pay periods for traditional prenoting, I have never had it take longer than a week via traditional means. I’ve even cut it much closer with banks that use the “sign into your employer payroll tool” method, like what PNC does, and have been fine.
6/18/25: Opened account & funded with debit card
6/19/25: Used Atomic within the PNC app to set up direct deposit in ADP. This leaves no room for error with respect to the account and routing numbers. I confirmed they were correct anyway.
7/1/25: Informed I’ll be getting a paper check as verification was still not complete. Payroll deadline was today.
I’m just one person but if you plan to use your real DD, do consider planning around missing the first pay period.

I opened an account on Friday, however online enrollment hasn’t been working. The furthest I got was through the app, but it doesn’t let me get past making a username/password and keeps showing an error that says “Online Banking is unavailable right now. Please try again later.” Tried 2 days in a row. Anyone have the same issue?
I just opened P2’s account yesterday and had to use her old login info from a past account. If that’s not it, then try another browser. Last resort, call support.
Kris
I previously opened an account with a promo code and closed the account before receiving a bonus, if I opened another account would I still be eligible?
Sure, you are eligible 12 months after last PNC checking account closure, and 24 months from last bonus…
Defaulting
That depends. When did you close said account? You need to wait at least 12 months after closing it to be eligible for the offer.
“PNC Bank regrets that we cannot open the Virtual Wallet® with Performance Select account you
requested. Our decision was based in whole or in part on information provided by the consumer reporting
agency noted below.” It cites Early Warning Services…is that the same as Chex system?
Similar, but not the same.

How quickly are you guys closing the account after the bonus posts?
Does anybody know if using the slider and downgrading the account before the bonus is posted disqualifies me from receiving the bonus?
No it should not disqualify you. Once you are past the month you opened the account you are allowed to downgrade according to the terms: If you change your Virtual Wallet product type after account opening, the product type that you are in on the last business day of the month in which you opened your account will determine your offer eligibility, terms and the corresponding reward amount, if applicable.
Sweet! Account has been open for 1.5 months so I will update once I receive the bonus 🙂
Per terms, “If you change your Virtual Wallet product type after account opening, the product type that you are in on the last business day of the month in which you opened your account will determine your offer eligibility, terms and the corresponding reward amount, if applicable.”
So, yes, you can downgrade before the bonus appears, after the first calendar month. Is it a good idea? Not really. And, do you see anyone getting assessed the fee? What’s the point?
Got $700 offer in the mail, then $800 a few weeks later. Took the $800 deal real quick.
PNC must have really wanted your business!
