[Update] Slide App by Raise.com: Get Discount At Hundreds Of Retailers By Paying With Gift Card

Update 11/3/23: Beginning November 14, 2023, you will no longer earn an additional 1-2% cash back using your Slide Balance. November 13, 2023 is also the last day to withdraw your cash earnings of $15 or more via Venmo or PayPal.

Update 8/29/22: Slide no longer offers a uniform 4% discount on all gift cards. The discount now varies by card brand.

Update 8/14/22: Slide is no longer on shopping portals

Slide App Overview

Slide app is a new app from Raise.com that lets you pay at 150+ retailers and get a 4-5% discount on the purchase. Essentially you are buying a gift card from the app with which to make your payment, similar to MPX, Fluz, and other similar apps. Select a payment amount and pay with credit card, Paypal, or Apple Pay; then use the gift card, which is delivered instantly, to pay for the store or online purchase.  You can select an exact purchase cost to the penny, there is no need to round off.

You get 4% back on all gift cards available on the platform. If you pre-fund your Slide account, the discount is bumped up to 5%. (If you pre-fund with a debit card payment that bumps up to 6%.)

Additional Details

  • Don’t expect to see Amazon or Walmart on the Slide platform; no one is offering 4-5% discount on the strong brands. There are hundreds of other brands found on Slide, such as Lowe’s, eBay, Uber, Groupon, Grubhub, Southwest, Gamestop, Petco, iTunes, Ulta, Sephora, Dunkin, Panera Bread, Google Play, Doordash, World Market, AutoZone and dozens more.
  • Both Slide app and Raise Cash sell first-hand/brand-new gift cards, in partnership with the retailers themselves. This is different than most Raise.com purchases which are for second-hand gift cards.
  • To get the 5% cash back rate (additional 1%), you need to preload your Slide account. You can preload any amount between $25 and $2,000. Notably, you can preload exact amounts, it doesn’t have to be a round figure. Thus, for any purchase of $25+, you can always get the full 5% back by simply loading your account and then buying the gift card. For purchases less than $25, you’ll have to actually do a $25 preload of just suffice with the 4% discount.
  • As with Raise Cash purchases, the Slide app will give you both the gift card number and a bar code. This is useful for in-store purchases where a card number alone does not suffice.
  • I assume Slide app and Raise Cash both code as generic purchases on the credit card without any sort of category bonus.
  • A minimum of $15 is required to cash out your Slide balance to Venmo or Paypal. Smaller amounts of cashback should still be able to be used against a future purchase, but won’t be able to be cashed out directly.

Rates Analysis

When comparing the rates Slide to Raise Cash, I’ve noticed that many of the brands available are those that are 4-5% on Raise Cash, meaning that it’s basically the same discount on Slide and on Raise Cash. However, there are many instances where the number diverge, often in favor of Slide, yet other times in favor of Raise Cash.

Here are a number of comparisons for the sake of sampling (note, these rates are true at time of this post and could fluctuate over time):

  • eBay is .5% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Uber/UberEATS is 2% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • DoorDash is 2% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Grubhub is 2% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Dunkin is 1% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Chipotle is 2% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Petco is 2.55% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Lowe’s is 4.75% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Groupon is 4% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Southwest is 5% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • iTunes is 4% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide
  • Domino’s is 7.5% with Raise Cash versus 4-5% with Slide

They probably made it 4% across the board for simplicity sake, and to seem more like a consistent payment method. In reality, it’ll depend on the gift card brand whether Raise Cash is better or Slide is better.

Update History

  • Update 7/22/22: Slide is back on Topcashback at 4% for existing users and 10% for new users. Other portal options here.
  • Update 6/24/22: $10 off $100, 6/24/22 only (ht TRJ) Topcashback portal is still dead, unfortunately, other options here.
  • Update 6/10/22: $5 off $50 for father’s day, expires 6/10/22 at 11:59 PM CT (ht Elliot)
  • Update 6/9/22: New users can get $5 off their first 4 orders. Hat tip to DDG
  • Update 5/13/22: $5.13 off $50 today only
  • Update 4/15/22: $5 off $50 today only
  • Update 4/1/22: Now 6.5% back on DollarDig.
  • Update 3/14/22: $3.14 off $35 today only for Pi Day (ht yb)
  • Update 3/8/22: Two updates:
    • Reader Dave noticed that for some category codings, Slide seems to pass on the info to the credit card. Specifically, an Ebay gift card is coded by Chase as the 5x eBay category. So it’s possible certain category codings (possibly only merchant-specific categories) will get passed on to the card to trigger category bonuses and possibly other offer credits. YMMV
    • Target and Apple are gone now from the app. (So now all 3 of the newly added top brands are gone – Best Buy, Target, Apple.) You can see a full list of Slide brands at this link or in the app.
  • Update 2/25/22: $5 off $50 today app-wide. Should work on Apple, Target or any other brand they carry. Expires today 2/25/22.
  • Update 2/11/22: A few updates (ht reader Sab):
    • They now have Best Buy, Target, and Apple on the Slide platform which is new. 5% discount on these is nice! It’s also useful for the Slide discount deals which can be used on those brands and for stacking with a portal. If there’s a portal for 6% back, you can get 4 + 6 = 10% discount on Best Buy, Apple, and Target. (Don’t prepay your balance since then the portal won’t track. Update: maybe it will track.) If there’s a $10-off-$100 deal, you can buy $100 Apple, Best Buy, Target gift card for $90 and get $4 back, plus possibly a portal bonus.
    • (They also added Amazon, but you can only buy it with your Slide credits from previous purchases, you can’t buy it directly. Also there’s no 5% discount on Amazon.)
    • There’s a $10 off $100 discount, valid today only (2/11/22).
    • Still 6%/17% back from Topcashback
  • Update 1/26/22: Now 7% back on Topcashback for existing users.
  • Update 12/27/21: A lot of people are getting an offer in their app to spend $100 by 12/31 and then get a $10 bonus to spend next week.
  • Update 11/29/21: Slide is on Topcashback, 7% for existing users, that’s 11% total when combined with the regular 4%. (30% from Topcashback for new users.) Hat tip reader Josh
  • Update 11/29/21: Slide is on Topcashback, 8% for existing users.
  • Update 11/22/21: Slide is now 6% cash back for existing users on MaxRebates. If you don’t already have a MaxRebates account you can use my referral link.
  • Update 11/12/21: They sent out offers for either $10 off $100 or $5 off $50, valid today only (November 12th). Check if targeted. Topcashback still has an increased offer; now it’s 31% for new users and 7% for existing. Use Paypal for 5x.
  • Update 11/8/21: Slide is now on Topcashback for 32% for new users and 8% for existing users. Hat tip to GC Galore
  • Update 10/27/21: They now offer a 2% bonus (6% total) when preloading with debit or crypto.
  • Update 7/20/21: 30% for new users, 4% for existing users. Hat tip to GC Galore
  • Update 4/2/21: Topcashback is offering existing users 5% back and new users 20% back. Hat tip to GC Galore
  • Update 11/6/20: Slide now added Kroger brands with $100 minimum. Grocery store discounts are not always easy to find, so this is significant. Especially makes sense once you’ve maxed out your Grocery category cards or if Slide is available on a shopping portal. (ht giftcardreport)
  • Update 11/2/20: Topcashback is up to 10% which means 14-15% total (10% + 4%) off all brands sold by Slide with no stated limit. Ends tomorrow, November 3. (ht to reader Max)
  • Update 11/1/20: You can now get 5.5% cashback by going through the Dollar Dig portal, that’s on top of the 4-5% from Slide and whatever you get from your credit card. No limit shown. There is a $25 cashout minimum with that portal. You can signup for Dollar Dig with my referral link if you want (no bonus for you; $2.50 for referrer). Some of us have used Dollar Dig in the past with success. Other Slide portal options can be found here. (ht GC Galore)
  • Update 10/5/20: You can also get 5% by going through TCB. Hat tip to GC Galore
  • Update 7/22/20: The Slide app is now publicly available on Android as well.

Our Verdict

Slide app is very similar to Raise’s existing program called Raise Cash Back which is available in the Raise app and on Raise.com. The difference with the separate Slide app is twofold:

  • The rewards amount is a consistent 4-5% with Slide; with Raise Cash the amount varies (see Rate Analysis, above).
  • The rewards with Slide app can be cashed out to your Venmo or Paypal, or used on your next purchase; with Raise Cash it can only be used toward a future purchase, no cash out option.

Overall it looks like a nifty new option. Some might like the utility of the Slide app, and it’ll be especially useful for brands which have a better discount on Slide than on Raise Cash. Those who use Raise heavily for second-hand gift card purchases will likely prefer just using Raise Cash over Slide to keep all their purchases in one location.

Steady 4-5% discount on eBay is noteworthy, and other brands like Uber/UberEATS, Grubhub and Doordash might be useful too, though those brands often run various discounts on other platforms.

If anyone’s having less than $15, buy amazon GC and use the balance to pay for it.

Min for that is only slightly better at $10, whatever you pay for above your slide balance will earn a few more cents which will then be stuck

Wow this is huge devaluation. I guess we will have to say goodbye to raise/slide. Any other options out there?

Just tried this yesterday, couldn’t get any payment method from Bank of America, Citi or American Express to be added to it. I guess that’s because they’re shutting it down per Otto.

Just got an email that they’re closing down Slide and merging it into Raise. Any cashback or Slide balance you have in Slide will convert to Raise cash on November 14.

Not a huge loss for me, since the deals really dried up over the years. I did still occasionally use it to juice up Amazon gift cards a little bit though (load Slide balance for 1% bonus, then buy Amazon GC for 0.5% bonus). I didn’t really find other deals I could use regularly after they shutdown affiliate/portal cashback and nerfed down the earning rates for places like eBay, etc. They also stopped offering the deals like $5 bonus on $25 and whatnot.

Would restaurants GC purchases in Slide code as dinning to stack with credit card dinning multipliers?

Has Slide worked for anyone lately? My account has been working fine for a couple years, but recently it said my account was locked and I had to call in to verify my info (I had already done that on the first day). They said my account was reactivated, but next time I tried to use it, the same thing happened.

I was not able to use it. I had a little over $1 in credits on it, and I was planning an eBay purchase, so I tried to buy the eBay code using the Slide App. It then said my account was locked and I had to contact support to unlock it.

I figured for $1 and the measly 0.5% or 1% they now pay on eBay I was not going to bother. It e-mailed me a few hours later saying my account was unlocked, although I had already completed the purchase using another means. I’m just deleting the app and moving on.

An update on my situation: I contacted them again, they said they put a 30-day hold on my account. 36 days after that, they emailed me that my account was unlocked. I used it a couple times after that with no problem.

Just got off phone with CSR. They are not accepting prepaid visa gift cards anymore. R.I.P. First Fluze, now Slide and Paypal barely works. I fee like giftcards.com Visa cards are pretty useless now.

Just got an email saying they’re going to raise cashback rates to up to 10% for their merchants. I’m guessing this was a factor in the reason for cutting the affiliate/portal shopping program. Curious to see if any of the useful merchants like ebay will get a meaningful boost.

The new cashback rates are live today. Turns out that they actually reduced the rates for many merchants: ebay is now 1%. ubereats/grubhub 1%, doordash 2%, cvs 3%.

Yeah that’s a big bummer. The ones I care about like ebay and Google play went down. It seems like the only ones that went up are the ones that can often be gotten for discounts elsewhere.

RIP slide.. it was a good run. No way I am using it for ebay 1% with the death of TCB. Raise itself offers better deals on the higher % anyway. Cashing out.

They also need to update their Venmo message “Cha-ching! Your cash back has arrived. Keep paying with Slide and get 4% cash back instantly.”

Would somebody be willing to post the Slide customer support phone number? The Slide app is malfunctioning on my phone, and it won’t allow me to log in. Every time I select the “Contact Support” option, the app just freezes. I’ve been dealing with this issue for days, and nothing seems to work (rebooting my device, reinstalling the app, logging in from another device). 😞 Thanks in advance!

Anyone else notice that Slide cashback seems to be displaying incorrectly recently? As in, I select a $25 Hulu gift card and it shows “you will earn $0.00 cash back” and if I choose a $50 gift card it shows “you will earn $0.80 cash back” which is only 1.6% not the expected 4%.

I tried logging out and back in, and reinstalling the app. Same issue.

Edit: Nevermind. It seems to be because cashback isn’t earned on purchases made with referral credit.
