Why is losing backup funding important? Were you able to initiate a debit transaction such as buying an MO with a nearly empty Serve, then indirectly pay for it using the CC backup source to earn points/meet MSR?

That is such BS — over half of Delta’s fine was waived because they “upgraded” their systems and paid compensation to travelers. The point of the fine is to punish them for violations of the law, the fact that they compensated customers (who would demand compensation after 5 hours on a stationary plane) has no bearing.

“You could still earn points on third party issued American Express cards, although I suspect most readers are banned.”

You can still earn points after this change, too. The email said nothing about stopping online funding using CC, which can be automated. Maybe this is an omen that they’ll soon stop that too, but for now it seems like we’re safe.

My comment was meant to be a joke anyway 🙂
