Accidentally posted this twice. I’m turning comments off on this post, please post your comments over here.
The Offer
No direct link to offer.
- Get 5,000 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $250+ in one or more eligible transactions directly with Alaska Airlines by 12/31/2017
- Others have the same offer but for $50 instead of 5,000 points.
The Fine Print
- Offer valid for purchases made directly with Alaska Airlines through alaskaair.com, US reservation telephone line, or US mobile app.
- Purchase must be in USD to qualify.
- Purchases such as Virgin America flights are included if purchased through alaskaair.com.
- Not valid for purchases through third parties, agents, and affiliate sites that link to/from alaskaair.com.
- Excludes gift certificates, lounge passes, lounge memberships, hotel bookings, car rentals, ground transportation, vacation packages, insurance, purchase or gifting of mileage on Mileage Plan account, Alaska Airlines Company Store and purchases within lounges, aboard flights or at international airports.
Our Verdict
Doesn’t work on gift cards, at least according to the fine print. It is working on refundable flights though. It’s nice to see offers for Alaska Airlines because we don’t often see those, it’s also nice that you can complete the $250 in spend in one or more transaction.

Super easy to refund ticket to Wallet and keep the credit a la the Merrill+ trick.
Can you explain?
Basically book a ticket and then refund it to the wallet on Alaska
Does klm offer refundable flights? I was looking to buy refundable flights in case my plans change but none of the focus coming up were refundable.
So I can book a refundable flight to trigger the 5,000 MR points and then cancel the flight to get the money back and the 5,000 MR points won’t be clawed back?
Or can you just book any flight and cancel it within 24 hours and still keep the MR points?
The same question can be asked of any Amex offer. Personally I try not to go too far.
I tried with the J Crew offer. I bought a sweater and got 2500 MR.
Then when I retuned the weather, 3 days later 2500 MR was taken from me.
So do we have any data points on gift certificates. I know what it says in the fine print but sometimes they don’t enforce those.
Still 0/5 Mr cards. Lol
Hmmm… how is it different from this?

It isn’t, I’m an idiot.
