Our Verdict

Late last year it was announced that fine hotels & resorts bookings would earn 5x on prepaid bookings for Platinum cardholders. There was some concern that because a prepaid rate was required that these would not earn hotel points/elite night credits but American Express confirmed that isn’t the case. This offer also requires a prepaid booking, so you should still earn hotel points and elite night credits. FHR bookings come with some additional benefits:

Noon check-in, when available
Room Upgrade upon arrival, when available
Daily breakfast for two people
Complimentary in room Wi-Fi
Guaranteed 4pm late checkout
Unique amenity valued at US$100, such as a food and beverage credit or one way private sedan transfer

I’d recommend price comparing to ensure you’re getting a good deal but this extra 16,000 in points could tip it over the edge for some people.
