Our Verdict

Personally I’d never spend this much on luggage, but apparently this is a good brand that is rarely discount so this might be a useful offer to some readers.

Did gift certificate triggers the offer?

I’m curious about this as well. Does anyone know if gift cards trigger the bonus? I’d like to use an offer on one of my cards and one on my wife’s cards.

Getting into the hobby in a big way in 2013 I knew I’d need some luggage upgrades. After 5 years of 2 big international trips per year my Samsonite spinner 25″ checked bags have been great. No major damage yet. I stacked a deal to get each $480 25″ spinner for about $135. MSRP of luggage is insane and 75% discounts are not hard to find.

For international travel, I recommend that each person has a backpack for hands free carry-on and one 25″ spinner checked bag. If you are able to go smaller, even better.

For reference a fully packed 25″ checked bag will be right around 50 lbs.

Got it on Platinum cards/flavors. Weird thing is it also took a few tries for some of the cards for this offer to show up.

I’d actually use this, but nothing across 3 personal and 3 business cards.

I take that back – after reading comments that it can show up later, I purposely visited Rimowa’s website to get a cookie in my browser, and checked today (a day later) and what do you know the Amex offer is there on my Platinum card. Thanks for the tip Peter !

If this offer is on both the Primary and an AU card, is it possible to double-dip with one purchase of $500+?

Is their stated warranty worth salt?

Probably not as good as the warranty from Away, but for Rimowa luggage, you ideally want to rely upon the one-two punch of CC baggage insurance and your airline’s baggage coverage. I flew on a flight last fall in which the baggage handler let my Away luggage drop off the baggage cart, which ripped off one of the wheels and scratched the luggage up when it hit the tarmac. That left me able to 1) get a free replacement from Away, 2) file a claim with the airline, and 3) file a damage claim with Amex. I’m not implying one should be remunerated three times for having a single bag damaged, just saying that it’s advantageous to have multiple layers of coverage.

So did you get compensated 3 ways?

Away is an overpriced junk that’s likely to go under in a few years. I wouldn’t be so happy about the “warranty” when you’re pretty much paying for it upfront.
Rimowa on the other hand has been around, and their luggages are virtually indestructible.
