Our Verdict
You can also get an additional 40% off with promo code HALLOWINE40. Using this promo code is seeming to still trigger the AmEx offer.

Did anyone who had a charge post as “Hemisphere – Wineinsiders” get their credit to post on AMEX? My shipment is set to arrive today and I am debating refusing it.
did you get an email from AMEX immediately after you placed the order saying “Great news! You just used your Amex Offer for $30.00 cash back”?
did you bought through their 2020 clearance sale?
Same problem here. I used a 40% off code and bought a trio set and my charge had the “Hemisphere” title. I just chatted with an Amex rep about the issue. First, he said the same thing that I was not eligible for the offer because “Hemisphere – Wineinsiders” was a different company. So I told him that I clicked the link from the Amex offer, was redirected to that website, and made the purchase. I also pointed to him that the $30 reward credit I received from Martha Steward Wine ( similar offer get $30 wyb $50, ordered the same day) also had the “Hemisphere” on the title. The shipments from the two different companies were from the same warehouse. So the rep escalated the issue and asked me to check back in 5 days.
Amex was not so picky about their offers. So I believe it was more of a setting problem than being tricky. Promo code (as long as it was not a Refer A Friend promo codes) should not exclude us from getting the reward. So don’t give up. Report your issues to them so they can be aware of the problem. I think the more reports of the problem, the more likely Amex would give us the credit back.
I just chatted with an amex agent and he said all promotions are excluded.
Using a promo code or starting a club membership will cause the offer to post as HEMISPHERE-WINEINSDRGLENDALE CA and not WINE INSIDERS GLENDALE CA.
If this happens, you will not be credited.
As far as I can tell, best case scenario, you’re getting 4 (maybe 5) bottles of fair to poor wine for $20 (more like $30 since it is hard to hit $50 exactly). I’ll be sticking to the grocery store for cheap wine.
If they weren’t messing it up, it would have been possible to start a club membership, then immediately cancel, and net 15 bottles of wine for less than $20 after this offer and the $47.25 Rakuten cash back. Would have been nice.
Did not trigger on my card, despite spending over $80. Amex rep on chat is saying it’s ineligible. I did NOT use a promo code. It was purchased over this past black friday weekend. BEWARE this Amex offer looks like a scam.
Yeah, the glory days of cheap wine via Amex Offers are over. It’s not worth the trouble any more.
So here’s the deal. It looks like WineInsiders is scamming people on purpose.
Check this out, if your transaction posts to Amex and it says: WINE INSIDERS GLENDALE CA
Then you are GOOD TO GO. Your amex offer will redeem automatically.
If it instead posts as: HEMISPHERE-WINEINSDRGLENDALE CA
Then you are NOT going to get the amex offer applied. PERIOD.
I made two different purchases directly through WineInsiders.com, on two different cards (SAME type of Amex card, P1 & P2). On ONE of those, it went through fine. On the OTHER, it went through as HEMISPHERE-WINEINSDRGLENDALE CA and Amex refuses to give the $30 for that because they say a “different merchant processed the payment”.
I believe WineInsiders KNOWS about this, and it must be their way to NOT PAY AMEX for redemptions of those $30 credits! HUGE TURN OFF from using their site again!
TW Is it possible you went through a cash back portal on one of them? Strange that they didn’t code the same way as each other.
I went through Rakuten on both orders. The order it didnt work on was with Chrome browser, Firefox order amex offer was correctly applied.
Also, chatting with WineInsiders.com they gave me a $30 store credit. YMMV
TW Interesting, thanks for the DP.
I used the promo code THANKS40 for 40% and it did not stack with the AMEX offer. It’s been 5 days since my purchase so I assume AMEX fixed the glitch on their end.
Update: I used the FALLFLAVORS35 code and it stacked with the american express credit. Took about 72 hours but the american express credit posted this morning. Ended up with 35% off with FALLFLAVORS35, free shipping, and $30 back on purchase.
I tried using the fallflavors code that everyone else used in an attempt to stack, which went through fine, but still haven’t received the promotional credit from amex. Order was placed 48 hours ago.
Tim Let us know what happens. I want to use the code, but only if the credit comes through.
Received AMEX credit this morning. Took approx 72 hours to post but it did go through. Heck of a deal stacking 35% off with $30 AMEX statement credit and free shipping!
I did a bunch of these over past few months (stacking different offers with the $20 off $20. All worked- until last one two weeks ago. No confirmation, no luck chatting them up. They said they could see I used a promo. So I think the stacking of offers is still YMMV
Same here , have been working with Amex for close to 2 weeks
Any update? Checking in because this is my first time using this promo but I did not get the Amex offer and I’m going to contact them later today. Coded on my card as HEMISPHERE-WINEINSDRGLENDALE CA
Drew R What did they say?
No dice. Rep kept citing the terms and conditions over and over despite my explanation that I didn’t break them. Then the chat suddenly ended and I was automatically logged off…not sure if they have the power to do that but probably the worst interaction I’ve ever had with Amex.
I contacted WineInsiders and they were quick to offer a $30 coupon off my next order. Considering I would have to pay for shipping back, I took it. Even though I was a little upset, I knew it wasn’t their fault and thought good on them for understanding and trying to help.
So I ordered 3 more bottles with the $30 and another 35% promo code. After shipping/taxes, it came to a total of $8. When all was said and done, I figure the total cost of each bottle was~$7 each which still not bad, especially considering delivery is nice and lines for my inner-city liquor store have been outrageous lately. Plus with the holidays coming up, makes for some easy family dinner drinks or supplementary gifts for some people (aka SOs extended family that I barely know).
Drew R Thanks for the follow up. I guess I’ll pass on this.
Same thing happened to me. Amex told me that it was a different company or I must have used a code, because they run the charge as “Hemisphere…” and not Wine Insiders. No idea whether the problem is with Amex or with Wine Insiders in terms of how they set up the deal, since I have read about problems with their offers in the past (never had an issue with any other Amex offers). Anyway, I asked to be elevated to a supervisor, and they issued me the credit, because there is no way that a customer who follows the rules and links should get penalized because of an error in how it is set up in the system.
Promo code FALLFLAVORS35 worked fine. Got instant confirmation from Amex on $30 credit. Net cost: $27 for 6 mixed bottles, tax included, plus free shipping. Can’t beat that with even cheap wine at grocery store.
I have spend $50 get $30 back for Martha Stewart, but my Wine Insiders deal is spend $100 get $25 back.
I’ve tried many of their wines and the best is Cottonwood Creek organic, white slightly better than red but both are good. Some of their other wines are so awful they’re undrinkable.
