Our Verdict

Earlier this year we saw a similar deal but it was spend $300 and then get a couple for another $300 in Yelp ads. This new offer is significantly better as long as you value Membership Rewards at 1¢ or more. I have no idea how long the process of setting Yelp Ads takes and I guess it’s only possible if you actually have a business listed on Yelp (but maybe if you don’t you could help a friend or family member that does or somebody in your local community?). If anybody has used Yelp ads before then please share your experiences below.

I got this offer, but I don’t advertise my business. If I can strictly limit the spending to $300, I’d be willing to do it for some community organization or non-profit, but I’m not sure how it would work.

Can anyone provide details of how this might be used to help out a good cause without taking a big financial risk on overspending?

Also received this offer on my FreedomPass Business – a straight $300 off $300.

I got this offer before. It made me nervous though.. thinking what if you spend the $300.. but it doesn’t track properly and you don’t get your bonus, and spent / wasted $300.

Anyone tried this before through AmEx Offers?

I did the Yelp offer last time when it was spend $300, get $300. This was for my brother’s business that already had a Yelp business page, and he wanted to test ads anyway so it was good timing.

When you activate ads, you set a budget (for example, $15/day). You have to monitor the ad’s spending level if you don’t plan on spending more than $300. Even though I was checking in pretty regularly, I exceeded the $300 by $100+.

The page that outlines daily spending isn’t that user friendly. You have to hit the “plus” button to bring up data re: extra spending (that’s what I missed). I had picked the “enhanced profile upgrade,” which removes ads from competitors, and the extra $2.50 a day is what was buried in the reports.

Also, if a Yelp sales person latches on to you, they will pursue you aggressively to discuss continuing the campaign.

BTW, we tracked Yelp ad performance by asking callers where they found us, and even though Yelp touted a high number of clicks and calls, the ads didn’t add one single customer that we know of.

it would be sweet to know of safe/easy way to milk this offer. For Schwab Plat holders this is easy $75 profit.

$75 profit is assuming one can spend exactly $300 on yelp.
