Our Verdict
As this deal is online only, remember to make sure you use a shopping portal (just remember some purchases like gift card are excluded). There isn’t any gift card restriction in the fine print of the Amex Offer deal, so that should work fine. Full list of gift card options can be found here.
One thing that Sam’s Club does that is exceptionally annoying is that a $50 card actually costs slightly less than $50, meaning it won’t trigger this offer. You can also split payment across two cards, but that still doesn’t help as a $100 gift card costs less than $100 as well. You can buy as a non member, but then you’ll be charged a 10% surcharge. Feel free to share how you plan to maximize this deal in the comments below. One way that would work is to purchase two $30 gift cards for $28.98 each.

Of my 19 cards, one had it. It is a new card that has never participated in a Sam’s club offer. Maybe how they are targeting it.
If I buy and pay for $30 Sams Club gift card online, and select to pick up the gift card in the store. Whether I qualify for this $15 AMEX offer?

At one of my local WM stores, the card reader doesn’t recognize Sam’s Club GC and a manager has to manually enter the GC number using the POS keypad on the cashier side. Last year the manager did it without fuss, but when I went to the same store a month ago they tried to deny me from using a Sam’s GC stating a new policy was enacted where they were no longer allowed to manually enter Sam’s GCs. They reluctantly did it for me as a courtesy so I could drain it, but just wanted to put this DP out there.
Do you have to be a member to shop at the website? There’s no club anywhere near me, so membership is pointless.

Last year I used this promo to get 5 quart of synthetic motor oil for ~$15 without being a member.
However, I think there I was a ~10% charge because I was not a member (but the oil was marked down 20% and the 2-ish dollars of the non-member charge actually helped me get above the $30 threshold).
Buy 2 $30 Sams Club gift cards, then use once you get them on whatever you want. Sign up for a 1 day pass with CA address, no 10% fee.
