There are four promotions available for those signing up for the Tornado investing app which can get you $180 or more:
- Get $45 from Swagbucks when you click-through to signup and then deposit at least $20
- Get up to $50 with the Tornado learn & earn program (terms)
- Get $10 with your first trade (there’s also a small chance you’ll get $20, $100, or $1,000; $10 is the minimum)
- Readers mention another promotion to get $75 when you invest $1,000. It’s found at this link. Note: funds must remain for one year in order to get this bonus.
Our Verdict
A bit confusing to work through all the steps here. You can read this comment for a timeline on completing these bonuses.
There is a $4.99 $7.99 monthly fee with the app, but you can request and get that changed to a per-trade fee with no monthly fees. You might end up paying at least the first month’s fee; please share your experiences in the comments below.
Hat tip to reader Matty R
If you’re new to Swagbucks then please read our review. You can get a bonus of up to $13 by using a referral link.
Has anyone managed to cancel the monthly membership prior to the first fee being charged? It’s $9.99 now, which is more than the cost of two trades (open position, close position).
They charged my 7.99/mo fee at the 1 week + 1 day mark
I’m not a fan of the $5.99 monthly trading fee, but the website is very easy to use for a beginner, such as myself. And you get unlimited trades, so for someone that trades a lot it might be a good deal. I like that I can buy stocks in dollar amounts and the website auto updates the price in real time during trading hours. I’m surprised that I did so well on stocks this week. I invested $1000 in 4 stocks and I’m already up $65.
Can this be churned?
The deposit bonus is listed in the “Rewards” section here: https://tornado.com/contact. Up to $1000 for an initial deposit of 1M. Cash has to stay in the account for a year, and it says you need to make at least 1 trade for the rewards to be valid.
I’ll add that, thanks
“Tornado will give you bonus cash in your account when you make your first deposit, starting with $5 for a deposit of just $50, and going up to $15 for a $100 deposit, $75 for $1,000, $150 for $10,000, and more for higher amounts.”
Gonna contact Tornado for their best offer on a $5k-$10k first deposit.
It’s a joke, you have to wait 1 year to get the in-app bonus
Which bonus are you referencing with the “in-app bonus”?
The $1000 funding bonus, I presume: https://tornado.com/funding-bonus-rules
Updated, thanks
After earning around 25,000 Swagbucks over the last 3 weeks from various deals (sofi, wsop, etc), Swagbucks has asked that I submit my government ID and biometric data to verify my identity.
No thanks. I’m out.
And it will get worse. The leaders of most countries in the world are working really hard to get that universal digital ID. “It is for your own good”.
It wouldn’t bother me as much if the IRS or DMV asked me to verify ID since they already have that information. Even id.me is getting scrutinized for identifying for the IRS.
But Swagbucks? Lol gtfo

Yes, because for the majority of the world, being unable to be identified properly is a major limitation to those people entering the formal workforce (higher incomes and paying taxes), getting access to government benefits, or becoming banked (i.e. having a bank account). A national ID system (like they’ve done in India) has massive, massive benefits measured in both quality of life and economic terms.
It has nothing to do with Illuminati conspiracies. What exactly do you think your state DMV and social security number are? Not everything is a conspiracy.
I guess that’s an improvement from them just shutting accounts. Did you get it cashed out?
I’ve only cashed out $75 with $200 remaining thats pending (~30 days).
They asked me to verify ID on a ticket I submitted because they didn’t credit $100 for SunBasket. So $300 held hostage.
I’ve had to do this twice while cashing out. After I completed it, I was credited just fine. I’m guessing it’s fraud prevention and ID verification since they have to issue tax docs for earnings. Idk, didn’t bother me…
I guess it depends if your personal information and biometric data is already all out there.
Good. More money for the rest of us.
MyPoints asked me to do that too a few days ago. I wasn’t even cashing out at the time – I was just inquiring about points that weren’t showing as pending from a Blue Apron subscription
What kind of biometrics are they asking for?
