(YMMV) American Express No Longer Uses Expedited Shipping For New Credit Card Approvals

I’ve applied for a number of American Express cards over the years and was always impressed with the speed they got the card in my hand. Often I’d get the card early the next morning at my doorstep.

My recent card approval for the AmEx Business Gold card seemed like an outlier – it took more than a week from time of approval via reconsideration until I received the card. My thinking was that only the automated AmEx system has the expedited shipping built into the workflow, not for approvals via reconsideration.

I’m seeing now a bunch of Reddit users report that recently they’re getting slow card shipping on their new AmEx approvals. Many seems to be for the Platinum card mirror finish – perhaps it takes longer to get that card finish created.

Others report, more generally, that AmEx has removed expedited shipping from the Gold and other mid-tier cards, and that even requesting expedited shipping won’t help.

Let us know your recent experiences.

It’s worth noting that American Express is pretty good about giving an instantly issued card number upon approval, and you can start using that immediately online, and can add to your digital wallet for in-store purchases.
