The Fine Print

  • Offer must be redeemed by person residing at the address on the mailer. Non Transferrable.
  • One per Customer and Household. Individuals who currently own or have had a Rockland Trust Checking account within the 90 days prior to the account open date are not eligible.
  • To be eligible for the $200 bonus you must open a new Worry-Free Checking account between July 7, 2017 and August 26, 2017. To earn the $200 bonus you must spend at least $500 (either POS or signature transactions) with your new Rockland Trust Debit MasterCard within the first 100 days from your account open date. ATM withdrawals do not count.
  • The bonus will be paid directly to your account by January 15, 2018. Bonus payment will be reported to the IRS for the tax year in which it is paid. Worry Free Checking accounts must be opened online or through one of the following Greater Boston Branches: Allston, Brighton, Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, Westwood, Norwood, Dedham, Brookline, West Newton, Waltham Moody Street, Waltham Main Street, Woburn Four Corners, Woburn Main Street, Woburn High School, Somerville, Burlington, Medford, Newtonville, Wellesley Hills, Melrose, Chestnut Hill. Offer may be discontinued at any time without prior notice.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Worry free checking account has no monthly fee to worry about. I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so I’m unsure on any early account termination fees.

Our Verdict

Fine print says you need to have received a mailer to be eligible but this sort of thing isn’t always enforced so YMMV. If anybody goes for it then please share your datapoints in the comments below. Obviously a great deal if it’s a soft pull and anybody can open in branch. For now it won’t be added to our best checking bonuses, at least until we know more.

Big thanks to reader, Curmudgeon who let us know. Learn how to find bonuses and contribute to the site here.

Pretty sure I haven’t received a mailer (though I don’t examine junk mail too closely) but I live in their coverage area so I’ll probably just give this a try by opening online and see what happens.

I wonder if I can just square my friend some money and meet the requirements.

Just opened online and funded w/ MasterCard $2000. I expected to get a pop-up error saying $2k was beyond the max…but it just went through! Now I’m thinking greedy, wondering what the maximum is lolol

P.S. Not targeted for the bonus, trying anyway. They use Andera system? Probably won’t be tracking targeted bonuses that closely

Did you get a soft/hard pull?
Did you contact them to ask if they see the promo on your account?

Also waiting to pull the trigger on this, if it’s hard or soft pull. Think I could get away with 2000 on my Citi DC?

Hi was there any hard pull for this account?

I received an email a few days after applying declining my online application and suggesting I go into a branch. Oh well.

Anybody funded $2500 with Merrill+ card?

Rockland Trust is not the friendliest of banks. Even from the beginning, all communications with the bank over email was very cold and unfriendly. I completed the application, put down $2500 as my deposit and was asked to provide two photo IDs. I provided the IDs and was declined due to the ChexSystem. The denial email did not indicate any reason behind it. I’ve run my ChexSystem report last month and it was clean. I recently opened checking accounts with other banks in June and August. Aside from the bonus, I wouldn’t recommend them.

Got mail from Burlington branch about the same bonus with expire date Oct 31st. Burlington branch just relocated so I don’t know if other branches has same extension or it is the only this one who extend this offer.

Seems Chex sensitive, I have like 20 banks opened in the last 6 months and was auto-rejected. Other then that the report was clean.

I did not originally receive the $200 bank bonus on 1/15/2018. I sent a message using the messages section and clicked “new conversation” saying I did not get the bank bonus by that date and received the $200 bonus 2 days after my message.

It seems that you are the only dp who received the $200 bonus. Could you please share a bit more information, did you receive the target mailer? Is it a hard or soft pull? Thanks in advance.

This was reopened – now says until 4/21. Just funded $2500 via Amex Platinum and it seems like it went through fine.

Do you use it as a spending for welcome bonus? Does it count?

The link now indicates a 6/30/18 expiration date… post seems to be lacking any DPs as to whether bonus posts for not targeted individuals… but I’m more interested in DPs of whether the Amex funding has coded as purchase and qualified for MSR. Cole did you have any luck with this after completing your funding?

Cole
Cole

It did indeed code as a purchase (Business Services – Other Services) with Amex, which makes it a good option for hitting high MSR for lower spenders – hit mine for a Platinum upgrade with this.

The expiration is now 12/31/18. What is the verdict on this being targeted and hard/soft pull?

As of clicking APPLY NOW, today, it takes you to the Andera opening page, stating can be funded from an outside checking or savings. There is no mention of credit cards being accepted. I called and they said it cannot be opened with a CC.

you must reside in one of the six New England states (MA, RI, CT, NH, ME, VT) to open your account with us online.

You will need to refer to several pieces of information during this process:

U.S. Social Security number
A valid form of identification including: Driver’s license, State ID, Military ID or Passport
Previous home address (if you have lived at your current home address less than two years)
U.S. checking or savings account to fund your new account
