This deal is no longer available, view more checking bonuses here.
Please note the fine print states ‘This offer is only available to the recipient of this offer and is non-transferable.’ I’m unsure if this is enforced as the promo codes are generic but it very well could be so keep that in mind.

Avoiding Fees

Advantage Plus Checking – $25 Monthly Fee ($200 Bonus)
This account is required for the $200 bonus. It has a $25 monthly fee that is waived if you do any of the following:
- Maintain a combined average balance of $7,500 or more in personal deposit or CD accounts, Home Equity or Home Equity Line of Credit balances and/or investments held at People’s Securities, Inc
Premier Advantage Checking – $30 Monthly Fee ($400 Bonus)
This is the account required for the $400 bonus. It has a $30 monthly fee that is waived if you:
- Maintain a combined average balance of $75,000 or more in personal deposit or CD accounts, Home Equity or Home Equity Line of Credit balances and/or investments held at People’s Securities, Inc
Early Account Termination Fee
Account must be kept open for 6 months otherwise bonus is deducted.
Our Verdict
Keeping the account fee free for the $400 bonus is much too difficult, requiring a total of $75,000 in funds. Even keeping the $200 bonus account fee free is difficult with $7,500 in funds required. If we put those funds in an account earning 5% they would earn $187.5 over the 6 months you’re required to have it open. That means only really the $100 bonus is worth considering and People’s United Bank has offered a $100 bonus on the same account with no direct deposit requirement last year. Because of all that I don’t recommend this bonus (it’s even worse due to that targeted language as well), that’s a shame given the $400 headline figure. Any new DP’s for direct deposits?
Any DPs on being approved as an NY’er w/o being targeted?
Confirmed, no credit card funding
Also, I didn’t see any place to actually put the promo code?
I opened the account last year, ACH from Alliant does not count as DD.
ACH from Blue Bird does not count as DD either
Thanks, adding these dp now.
I’m so sorry William. I previously advised you the wrong DP on this one here. I just checked my account today and noted that the promo offer for $175 last year was finally posted on 3/26, here is the complete DP:
11/6 -Account opened in branch, initially cash deposit $40
11/9- ACH from Bluebird $300
11/16- ACH from Alliant $300
I used Circle pay (apps) to load money from Debit Card for once, after that I’m no longer able to do that so then I added money to my BlueBird account for another 11 transactions. Total 12 transactions with each one over $25.00. Requirement was fulfilled on 12/7/2017 and bonus posted on 3/26/2018 for $175.00
Therefore, BB and Alliant DO COUNT AS DD. Please update.
Hello William, can you fix this? They are indeed counted as DD
Will do, fixing now.
As of 12/21/2020, ACH push from Alliant Credit Union still counts as direct deposit
Out-of-target area DP. Made it past the zip code check with a branch zip code. Tried to complete app using real address and received not in service area message. Tried again using real address with a targeted state instead of my own but their app process does a state/zip code check. No go for this one. On to the next…
Does it occasionally work where you use your own address and zip code but you use the wrong state, one in the targeted area? Or am I not following the trick?
Let’s just say all banks aren’t this strict.
