Signup for an Ebates-Membership Rewards Account with an American Express Business Card

[Update: Readers confirm in the comments that anyone with an Amex business card can now signup for the new Ebates-MR account directly, no use the method described below.]

The new Ebates – Membership Rewards account was only possible to obtain for those with a personal MR-earning card, it didn’t work for those only with a business card. Reader K. sent in a tip that they were able to signup for the new Ebates account with only a business card via a ‘Special Promotions for You’ link from within their Amex login.

This doesn’t matter for anyone who has personal cards, but if you only have Amex business cards this tip might work for you. It’s also possible that they changed the rule and now allow anyone who has a business card to signup directly. I have no way of testing this myself.

Signed up using the previous method a few weeks ago – no personal cards, 3 business. Looks like it’s just for all MR cards now.

I think they allow anyone with an MR biz card to sign up directly. I signed up for an ebates MR account at the beginning of march, and i only have amex biz cards. I didn’t receive any special offer from amex or anything, but i did get the 1500 bonus points. Already had another ebates account, just stopped using the old one is all. I left a comment about this back in the beginning of April.

Interesting. Just checked my biz blue account and same offer is there, even though the offer says it doesn’t apply to “Corporate Cards”. I am ssuming that a corporate card is different from a business card, since the link does take you to the ebates site to sign up and get 1500 MR points for signing up with ebates and linking your MR card. In my case, the “offer” could be found under the “More” tab, on the same line as the “Home” and “Statement” tabs. Didn’t sign up yet because I need to set up a new email account for the new ebates account.

P.S. Thank you Reader K for informing DOC!

When you signed in to your account go to Explore rewards and in the drop down menu pick Promotions for you.

Is there any way to convert your existing account to a MR earning account?

Not yet, unfortunately.

You can create a new account. I emailed ebates customer service and asked if there was a way to convert, and they replied back in a few minutes telling me I could create a new account and provided instructions. If you use gmail, you can use the same address, just add a period in your address, which gmail ignores, e.g. firstlast@gmail becomes first.last

I prefer doing +website so I know where spam ends up coming from, plus you can filter a lot easier that way. Filters to “+ebates” “+gcm” “+simon” would go to MS, airline things, hotel things, etc. Makes it fairly easy

could you post the instructions?

Since the 15K MRs offer became available, I haven’t been able to sing up for ebates bc I keep on getting this message:

‘Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again’

Same thing today? My account consist of a mixer of cards like charge cards, Hilton, delta, rose gold, and everyday preferred.

Also, I can’t locate the ‘Special Offers for you’? I have seen it before, but I can’t remember where?

I experienced the same error message. Turning off Content Blocking temporarily in Firefox (accessible from the URL bar button) resolved the issue for me.

Need to go to the Rewards site. Can access using the green radio “Explore Rewards” button from your online account.

I’m very excited to have my first transfer of 63,481 points on 5/15/19! Fingers crossed there won’t be any issues…

That’s a lot of cashback. If you don’t mind me asking, what stores are you using ebates for?

I got about 3k in stuff from Dell a few month when it was 15 pts/$. Stacked with Amex Gold Biz for an additional 4x pts (card perk, not in total above) and 10% rebate Amex offer.

So if I have a ebates account now (have since 5 years) I can open up another account with same email via Amex MR link? Won’t ebates consider it duplicate and freeze/block both accounts under their stupid fraud alert system?

Contact ebates, tell them you want to convert your account to earn MR. They’ll email you back (I got a response within minutes) and tell you to create a new account and how to do it. I just added a period in my gmail address and now am earning MRs! And no issues with fraud since you are following their instructions.

But then you don’t get the
Amex ebates account opening bonus right?

I got 1500 bonus points.

I’m still not able to actually sign up. I go to the eBates/Rakuten landing page, put in another email address, then sign in Amex. It says I’m eligible, then restarts the whole form.

Anyone else having this issue, or find some way around it? If I make a new account ‘normally’, that would invalidate me for the bonus, yes?

Must have been something about my previous attempts to sign up, or it doesn’t like my “.tech” email addresses. I was able to get in using a typo’d email address, but wouldn’t let me change to my original ones.
Either way, finally signed up.

Only for new members, or just create a second account?

is there any risk in creating a second account? I already have a cash back earning account

Did they convert your old cash back as well or you just empty that account to cash and only use the new one?

Does this earn 20x MR per dollar?

What are people redeeming MR points for at values greater than $.01 /point which would make this Ebates AMEX partnership worthwhile? Etihad airline and Singapore KrisFlyer’s points?

Brian
Brian

Pretty much any 1:1 or better airline (with the right flight – gotta do the math). Additionally, Biz Plat cardholders get a 35% rebate on point redemptions for their selected airline and/or 1st class/business tickets on any airline. Significantly better than cash, if you travel.

Thanks Brian! I have the Business Platinum AMEX but it’s been a couple years since I redeemed any MR points. The last time I redeemed points was for a hotel giftcard which was not a great value.

Any idea whose server stores the AMEX MR-to-ebates accounts linkage? Can’t find it on the AMEX site. Perhaps you create the linkage on ebates side only after earning sufficient Big Fat Cashback? TIA
