Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
LifeGreen Preferred Checking has a $18 monthly fee. This is waived if you do any of the following:
- Avoid the monthly checking account fee by doing one of the following:
Maintain a $5,000 average monthly statement balance in your LifeGreen Preferred Checking account. OR - Have $25,000 in combined minimum deposit balances from all your Regions checking, savings, money markets, CDs and IRAs. OR
- Have $25,000 in combined minimum outstanding loan balances from your Regions personal installment loans, lines of credit, equity lines of credit, equity loans, direct loans and credit cards in good standing. OR
- Have certain qualifying first-lien home mortgage loans in good standing
Early Account Termination Fee
There is an early account closure fee of $25 if you close your account within 180 days of account opening.
Referral Bonus $50
There is also a referral bonus you can receive in addition to this $200 bonus (bringing the total to $250). This has worked in the past, but it is no guarantee to work this time around. Do not share your referrals in the comments below, they can be found and shared here.
Our Verdict
This is better than the standard $300 bonus that is available, downside is that it requires an account that is more difficult to keep fee free. If you’ve got the $5,000 to keep this fee free most people will prefer the extra $100 (although it’s borderline compared to just keeping that in a 5% account). We will add this to our list of the best checking bonuses.

I have keep my account open for 5.5 months, Plan to transfer out the money when 6 months hit and then close the account. Quick question though, after I zero out the balance, will I immediately get hit with the $18 dollar fee, or it won’t happen until the next statement.
What I do is if there is a branch near my house I go and cancel there. It’s quick and easy on the spot.
Opened account in branch on 03/20/25 with $400 bonus code. Regular $600 biweekly deposits. $1000 completed on 04/09/25. Tracker shows everything to be completed but status shows “Excluded”. I don’t why. Bonus has still not posted. Talked to customer service and they said to wait for 90 days. Going to go to the branch for status.
extended to end of June

assuming he’s talking about the $300 one vs the $400 one
Anyone have issue with the “Enroll in Online Banking within 90 days of account opening” requirement despite successfully created an online banking account?
I was having issues logging into the offer tracker page despite having an online account. After trying a few more times it worked. But in my tracker it shows I’m 75% completed, with Enroll in Online Banking showing still as Incomplete.
Enroll in Online Banking within 90 days of account opening (Start: 4/24/2025 | End: 7/23/2025) Incomplete
Is what’s being shown in the tracker. Want to avoid calling customer service if possible… I double checked an I’m using the same email address in my online banking as when I registered so that isnt the issue. Heck, it wouldn’t be tracking the DD and other actions if I don’t have online account access. Unless there are two different online banking portals/dashboard I’m unaware of…
3/25 – Transferred $1000.01 in from E*Trade
4/3 – Transferred $980.00 out
5/14 – $400.00 bonus posted (Tracker said by 5/24)
5/14 – $18.00 monthly fee posted
5/15 – Transferring $402.01 out
I will close the account in a few days.
I opened the account on 3/9. If I hadn’t waited so long to fund it, I’m sure I would have avoided the $18 monthly fee.
I was able to downgrade and get the 18 fee returned. Just an FYI. Via Chat

5/5 Drained Account by bill pay
5/7 Closed account via online chat with zero balance. Requested a bill for the $25 Early Closure Fee. I suspect I won’t see one.
Note: I never had to pay any monthly fees and didn’t switch over to a basic account for the 60ish days I had the account. YMMV
did you ever end up getting hit with $25 closure fee in any way or no? i’d like to close my account as well and am still within 180 days so technically would be subject to the early closure fee
I wonder what’s the easiest way to get money out. It occurs to me that external transfer is limited to 5k/mo with 2k each with fees, and Zelle is limited to 4k/mo.
Opened in branch: 2/24
1k DD: 2/25

real payroll DD or push from another source?
Account opened – 01/24/25
DD 1000 – 02/07/25
$400 bonus posted – 04/01/25
Transferred out all of the funds, requested closure via chat on 4/13. Rep told me there was a $25 closure fee. I asked how I could pay it since my balance was $0. I was told I “probably wouldn’t get hit with a fee with $0 balance.”
The account is now closed, but I just got first denial for a checking account from Bank of America via Early Warning System. Awaiting my report…
Keep us posted. EWS was my worry about closing it too soon. I ended up downgrading the other day to a basic one to wait out the extra few months.
Why not leave in $25 for the closure fee?
Account Opened – 1/21
Payroll DD for $1,005 – 2/14
$400 Bonus Posted – 4/4
I was able to close my account via chat with no early termination fee. I had a $25 balance when I originally requested to close it and the rep advised that if I zero’d the account and then reached back out to close, I would not be subject to the fee. YMMV.
