You don’t put it anywhere for now.

Just a suggestion – open the referral thread at least 2 times a year. Reason is, since most of us are churners, their accounts are closed and long gone and the referrals will be rejected in the back-end by refer live. Since the referral for biz is $150 it is substantial loss/gain based on how you look.

I think most people can find referrals elsewhere. The problem is a few ruin it for everybody but breaking the rules so we have to be strict on closing the threads.

Has anyone tried opening a consumer and a business checking account at M&T on the same day, preferably in branch? I am looking for a DP as to whether this was:

(i) one or two Chex hits;

(ii) if two, whether they merged, and

(iii) if merged, how long until they merged.

Travelling to CT in a few weeks and plan to try to open a business account for a $1,500 bonus. Would add the $350 consumer bonus if I can do it without an extra Chex hit; otherwise probably not worth it to me since I have other, bigger bonuses to do in the same timeframe.

I didn’t open a biz account, but I did open a savings account with my checking account. I wanted to maintain the relationship for future churns, and I didn’t realize at the time that you could churn with an existing checking.

Both apps were processed separately, with two Chex pulls, but they merged to one a few days later.

Thank you!

Just so that I am understanding this correctly — at M&T, you can get a bonus on consumer checking account 2, even if consumer checking account 1 is still open, as long as it’s been more than 12 months since the bonus was paid? I guess the consumer terms can be read that way (the business terms definitely exclude existing account holders). I assume there are DPs? I just started reading the comments in this thread, so sorry if this has already been discussed at length.

We’ve discussed this multiple times below. First monthly fee is waived and bonus pays out quickly after your DD. Downgrade to EZChoice after the bonus posts.

You are right that no savings account is required for the current promotion link. Some of M&T’s previous promotions required opening a Savings account. DoC does not update the title of the article every time there is a different version of the promotion.

They denied my last bonus since even though I was within the region, the code wasn’t applicable for my region.

They made no sense. The branch confirmed the promo, but in the end they escalated and refused to pay the $400 on P1 and P2.

Debating trying another.

Anom Can you please give a bit more detail? Did you open in a branch outside of your home area while travelling? Or did the branch apply the wrong promo code?

See our comments under #2084843 . Minimum balance doesn’t really matter.

You might want to rethink that. Nobody forces you to fund the required amounts to waive the fee. If they ask, not that they would, but you are working on get all your money moved over and the fee gets waived the first month anyway.

You then downgrade after you get the bonus, like I described here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/mt-bank-150-checking-bonus-tn-available-online-ct-dc-de-md-nj-ny-pa-va-wv/#comment-2084901

Not sure why I didn’t notice this post earlier. How long do you think (on average) it’ll take for the $500 bonus to come back?
Thanks

Gadget 🕵️‍♂️ Bank Bonus Geek 🔗

Nobody can predict when that will be, or if it ever will come back. Seems many of these banks and credit unions like to ‘keep up with the Jones’s’ and will offer a similar amount as their nearest competitors. That’s at least part of the reason why we see some regional hotspots, IMO.

PNC $400-$600, Fifth Third $300-$500, Truist $400-$500, Regions $300-$400, & Huntington $400-$600 are some in those ballpark. Some of those in the upper range are targeted offers though. Seymour

P1 and P2 both still have an account with them that was opened in last July. Does referral relevant in these situations? Can we refer each other? Also, terms doesn’t seem to exclude anyone with the existing accounts, correct?

Umm, I’d think the chances of it working are slim as existing accountholders, but what’s the harm in trying?

Anyone else stuck on the zip code page? After clicking the link posted above and clicking “open online” it asks me to submit my zip code, then it shows me a short form to complete to receive the offer via email. After submitting this form i clicked on the “open online” link in my special offer email from M&T bank, then I am sent back to the same page as the one posted above (except with the code TB in the link address) that asks for zip code. Once again, when I enter my zip code it just shows me the same short form to complete. So I am seemingly Unable to start the application online. Do I have to go in branch? Thanks!

I checked the branch’s zip code on the page for the $500 promo code that was active at the time. The zip was allowed, so I used that promo code in branch. The banker looked it up and said it would work.

If on a desktop browser, you see the code in the URL briefly as the page opens after you click the “Open my account online” button.

Alternatively, you can click “Redeem in Branch” and get the coupon emailed to you. It’s 100% T B (no space). DY

If you make it through the zip code filter, the code will be pre-inserted into your online application. You can test it out and see for yourself (don’t have to submit it). Hth.
