American Express Business Platinum $200 Dell Annual Benefit Live for Existing Cardmembers ($100 twice per year)

One of the new benefits on the American Express Business Platinum card is the $200 Dell annual benefit. Good news is that it’s already showing in the online login as an available benefit for current Business Platinum cardholders.

The way the Dell credit works is you get $100 credit on purchases made from January through June and another $100 credit on purchases made from July through December. You need to enroll before doing the spend in order to get the credit. You’ll get an email confirmation after enrolling. It’s all exactly the same way the annual Saks credit works on the personal Platinum card.

More Details and Enrollment for the Dell Credit Here

Here are the official terms (bolding mine):

Get up to $100 in statement credits between January and June and up to $100 in statement credits between July and December for U.S. purchases with Dell on your Business Platinum Card. That’s up to $200 in statement credits annually. Enrollment required.

Only the Basic Card Member or Authorized Account Manager(s) on a Business Platinum Card® Account can enroll the Card Account in the benefit. Eligible purchases must be charged to the enrolled Card Account for the benefit to apply. Purchases by both the enrolled Basic Card Member and Employee Card Members on the enrolled Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, each Card Account is only eligible for up to $100 in statement credits between January and June and up to $100 in statement credits between July and December for a total of $200 per calendar year in statement credits across all Cards on the enrolled Card Account. Valid only on purchases made directly with Dell or at dell.com in the US and US Territories where Dell is the merchant of record for the purchase. Not valid on online purchases shipped outside of the US. Please allow 2-4 weeks after an eligible purchase is charged to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. Please call the number on the back of the Card if statement credits have not posted after 4 weeks from the date of purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your eligible purchase from merchant until all items from your eligible purchase have been provided/shipped by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if the eligible purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as eligible for the benefit, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not be eligible if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. To be eligible for this benefit, Card Account(s) must be not canceled and not past due at the time of statement credits fulfillment. For additional information, call the number on the back of your Card.

I don’t believe it’s possible to buy Dell gift cards directly on the Dell.com site, only through Cashstar which likely won’t work to trigger the credit. You can trigger the credit with an XBOX digital gift card if you’re into that or other digital software like TurboTax or Microsoft Office. (You’ll find your digital purchases in your Dell Digital Locker.)

You can use up to 3 credit cards to pay for a purchase on Dell.com; if you have more than one Platinum card or if you have one and your spouse/friend has another, you can pool and buy a single $200 item, or even $300 with three cards. Regardless, be sure to pay directly, not via Paypal.

Dell has a Prime Match Guarantee. Also worth noting that there are often Amex Offers available at Dell.com. Currently, there’s an offer through June 2019 to get 10% back on your Dell.com purchase. If you see that offer, be sure to save it on your business Platinum card. You should get both the $100 credit and the 10% back to turn this into a small profit. Remember to go through a Shopping portal as well.

Personally, I have two Business Platinum cards which I got due to upgrade offers. It’s sweet to get this added benefit without having to pay the higher annual fee – that’ll hit on my next annual fee at which time I’ll likely cancel the card. (Quick tip for those with two cards in the same login: I had to remove one and create a separate login in order to enroll the second Platinum card in the Dell benefit due to technical issue.)

Please let us know if you have any good ideas of what to do with the $100. Check out post on maximizing and FAQ on the Dell credit here.

now, who will be the test subject for gift cards?

Dell allows using 2 cards at checkout.

Thank you. Now it gets interesting.

There was an Amex offer for 10% off purchases at Dell available to me yesterday (when I added it). Worth a check before purchasing anything from Dell

CM

All the stuff at Dell.com is so overpriced. For example, some Samsung’s 128GB sticks for USB 3.1 are 39,99, whereas even Samsung itself sells those at 25,99, and you can get it even a few bucks cheaper at other retailers.

This is such a letdown to have to use this stupid benefit now.

Yeah I know. I was looking for an 8GB stick of DDR3 for my laptop and on dells website it’s $100. On ebay or amazon it’s $35.

I could literally buy a $100 xbox gift card, sell it for something like $70, buy myself an 8GB stick of DDR3, and still have $35 left over. Plus if I went the dell route I would have to pay sales tax.

This benefit seems very hard to cash out.

Wait a second, what if I buy something from dell, then return it.

hmm…

that being said amex clawed back the saks credits, maybe they know about this.

Dell has a 15% restocking fee.

Steven

Yeah that unfortunate but they frequently have high portal rewards so it’s a double-edged sword.

You don’t have to use the benefit and be letdown…
I know I’d be happy with four 128GB sticks for 3.96, though. Twice a year

Same stupid comment you made on r/churning. Not everything on Dell.com is overpriced. Solution: Buy something that isn’t. Or, you know, get Dell to price match. Which they will. Problem solved.

And by the way, would you rather pay $25.99 or $0 after the Amex credit? Christ. The degree to which some people will complain when getting free stuff is really incredible.

Dylan
Dylan

Its not really free. I had to pay a $595 annual fee to get this $100 credit.

It would be free if the card had no annual fee.

We are attempting to reduce the effective annual fee to zero by finding creative ways to “cash out” these dell credits.

Mat
Mat

Did someone hold u by your Ear and force you to pay $595 fee to get this card? And you really got this card only for this $200 annual dell credit? What about MR points bonus/$200 AFC/lounge access etc?

I agree with Bruce……..spoiled pampered brats in this country wanna cringe and whine bout every little stuff coz they are spoiled as free stuff IS AVAILABLE…..Take it or Leave it……But then as they say “U can’t fix STUPID”

Buy a drone and sell it for $90-$110 off depending on how badly you want points/profit?

I know dell tend to give promo gift cards out for buying some items. Often you can daisy chain these items. Good idea if it’s June or late year. People on slickdeals talk about it often.

Plus you can price match with dell. Looks like 3rd party stuff also.

Price-matched items are sold as phone order only. So the AmEx 10% offer will not apply. There will be no free shipping either. For some items this will result in a higher total than the overpriced online sale.

Any ideas on how to use the credits to buy a video game console since gift cards purchases dont work? Would ideally like to use both $100 credits.

You could buy an xbox console with the xbox gift cards.

Ian
Ian

They sell consoles directly on Dell no?

Andrew
Andrew

yes. they sell switch, xbox and playstation

Susan
Susan

I bought a Nintendo Switch Console ($299+tax=$326) and paid using 2 BizPlat cards ($200 credit). I also had 10% AMEX Offer on both cards ($32 credit) and used Topcashback 5% ($16 credit). I also signed up for Dell rewards program @ 3% (~$9). That brings down the cost to $69 out of pocket. Should be able to sell the console for ~$280 or so on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.

Also Topcashbacks is currently 4% back from dell. Via cashback monitor.

VM

If you are calling them to price match – ofcourse this will not work.

AJ
AJ

I have used up to 10% cashback using Topcahback. If someone needs something big then waiting could be worth it to stack all the discounts.

Question. If my card is renewing in February will I get charged $595 or $450. Thanks

Dan - Legal Bank Robber

$450. The following year $595. I believe, not positive. Just going off based on what my personal gold change is.

Ben
Ben

That’s why I asked but I’m looking for a confirmed answer. Thanks

Closertothesun

When I did the call-in to get mine in January, the CSR reading application terms said something along the lines of “Annual fee of $450 for applicants on or prior to Jan 31 and $595 for existing cardholders whose fee is charged after and later applicants.” Seems to suggest $595, but not a hard confirmation either.

I didn’t know dell price matched, that could make it sweet.

I’m not familiar with the Xbox cards but it would seem they are the same on the Dell website as these listed on Raise? Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, i do believe they are the same. The only ones different that I’m aware are the subscription ones (e.g. one year, 3 months) for gold and game pass

Excellent. I think I’ll buy these tomorrow.

Does activating a cash back portal once you are already on dell.com/amex void the terms for having to shop through the amex “portal”

MJ
MJ

Yes, the shopping portal won’t “take” unless you click through the respective airline/cash portal instead of going to dell.com/amex… later on in the T&Cs, it drops the “/amex” in the link provided and just states “dell.com”… either way, the “/amex” isn’t really something that’s enforced, so you shouldn’t worry about going through shopping portals.

For those that don’t know, xbox gift cards are essentially Microsoft store GCs as well (unlike itunes/apple), so you can buy stuff with it ..i bought an xbox that way

Ben
Ben

So you can use xbox gift cards to buy anything on the Microsoft store? Are there any limits to how many you can use? For example, could I use 10 $100 xbox gift cards to buy a tablet or laptop?

Sevillada
Sevillada

Yes, you can buy a laptop, etc. Not sure about limits though. During the holidays i bought some at 15-20% discount, do there may be some cheap ones in resale sites

I might just get a nitendo 2ds or 2ds.xl…my kids don’t let me use the ones i already have lol
