Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find an early account termination fee in the fee schedule.
Our Verdict
Better than the $100 bonus previously offered and can be opened online. Seems to be a soft pull now as well making it even better.

I submitted a complaint to Mission Fed’s supervisory committee email [email protected] (from page 2 on their account statement) requesting MFCU to immediately credit the $200 welcome bonus for myself and all other new CU members who participated in the NEWACCT promo. Per the NCUA complaint page, they want us to first try to resolve the issue with the Credit Union’s Supervisory Committee. If they do not promptly respond or deny my request, I will do the NCUA complaint next. I suggest all other fellow new MFCU members who are not being timely paid the $200 welcome bonus to also submit a complaint with your account statements, and copy of the promo to the email above. Strength in numbers!

Please tell us when the supervisory committee responds.
$200 welcome bonus posted 10/11/2022.
Has anyone received bonus for this yet? Nothing for P1 and P2 here.
Nothing yet. Sent a message via secure chat Monday and haven’t heard from them.
Response from today:
Dear Mr. XXXX,
We would like to take a moment to respond to your recent
inquiry regarding the new account promotion. This
promotion was specifically targeted to a select group of prospective members
through a direct mail offer containing an acceptance website URL. This
offer was not transferrable or redeemable by anyone other than the intended
mail recipient.
We reviewed the additional information and have determined that you were not a part of our select
mailing group and therefore, were not eligible for the cash bonus.
Please note that we have thoroughly reviewed
your concerns and will not be providing further response on this topic
Sincerely,
Lisa

Problem is, for Mission Fed, that they neglected to include any terms that state the promo was targeted. Therefore, the ad is deceptive, subject to the $2500 misdemeanor fine.
My $200 bonus posted 10/7. No other messages from Mission Fed
Reviewed the offer with local branch manager who stated that the marketing department will only honor it for their targeted list. However, nothing on the online promo webpage mentioned that it was limited to the targeted audience. So, I will plan to file an NCUA complaint at mycreditunion.gov for the false advertising and get the bonus that way.
CC ,
May I ask which branch you dealt with? I have so far only dealt with the call center. I sent them a screenshot as they requested. They then said that my debit card charges were too small to qualify….. I am waiting for a call center manager call-back. However, I will probably also file a complaint with NCUA, as will P2.
p.s. I recently filed a NCUA complaint against TFCU and got good results.
Chula Vista. The branch deferred to the internet marketing dept. There was nothing in the terms that stated any minimum amounts on the debit transactions, only that 10 debit transactions needed to be done.
In addition to the NCUA complaint, I might also file a police report on Mission Fed’s internet marketing dept. Business and Professions Code 17500 BPC is a California statute that prohibits false or deceptive advertising to consumers about the nature of a product or service. This covers false or misleading statements in print, digital or any other advertising media. A conviction is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $2500.00.
Can we also file a CFPB complaint?
KCFV ,
Yes, you could also file a CFPB complaint. However, I have not had much luck with them. They admitted that all they do is to forward the complaint. They will not try to enforce anything on your behalf. It appears that NCUA is more active (at least with the one complaint that I have filed)
CC ,
How do you file a police report on this?
I am not sure if a complaint to the California Attorney General (https://oag.ca.gov/contact/consumer-complaint-against-business-or-company) will just be forwarded to the NCUA. See this Table: https://oag.ca.gov/consumers/complaint-referral-table.
Another option, if NCUA fails, is to file a claim in Small Claims Court. It is pretty easy, inexpensive and I have had good luck with that against banks.
To file a police report would require a police station visit to the nearest police station of Mission Fed’s Scripps Ranch administration office as the online police report does not have a standard form for this business noncompliance issue. That’s a bit of a drive for me, so I’d rather not have to do it. Hopefully the Supervisory committee email and/or the NCUA complaint will resolve this.

“California Business and Professions Code 17500 prohibits false advertising.
A prosecutor must prove two things to show that a person or company is guilty of this crime. These are:
1. The person or company made a false or misleading statement in connection with a service, product or the sale of a service/product/property; and,
2. The person or company knew, or should have known, that the statement was false or misleading.1

#2 will be hard to prove.
If someone has the screenshot or pdf printout of their website (https://www.missionfed.com/newaccount) prior to 7/15/22 before they take it down, can you please post it here or online? Much appreciate it. This was an online offer for all residents or workers of San Diego county to benefit, but now the MFCU is denying payment, claiming this was a targeted offer, while clearly it wasn’t. Shame on them. Thank you beforehand for your time and help.

I have also not received the bonus yet.
got approved and account funded via CC. no communication from the bank since then. How does one create online account?
I called in and asked for my account number and they gave it to me over the phone. And I was able to use that to create an account online.
Otherwise you will have to go into a branch or wait for the debit card to show up. The representative told me the debit card might take up to two weeks to come.
Thanks for the info. Debit card finally showed up and was able to create an account. By the way, does amazon reload satisfy the 10 debit transaction requirement?
VERY SHORT window of opportunity. I live near a branch and would have done this IF I had known anything about it.
