[Expired] [Extended] Chase Marriott/Ritz Credit Cards: Get 10x Points On Gas & Restaurants, Up to $3,500 [7/15-9/30]

Deal has ended, view more Marriott deals by clicking here.

Update 9/4/20: They’ve extended the promotion through the entire September (previously it was supposed to end on the 15th). Activation must be done by the 15th. Hat tip to garettg

Update 8/12/20: A lot of readers in the comments here reporting being able to activate now who weren’t able to activate initially.

Update 7/14/20: For those who weren’t able to activate previously, try again now – link is working now for a lot of people. Emails were sent out to some today as well.

Second update on 7/8/20: Use this link for all cards, including business cards. If you were previously showing as ineligible, it’s worth checking this link now (especially if yours is a business card). Reports indicate this offer should work for everyone, worth trying until you get it to work.

Update 7/8/20: Seems to be live for sign up now; readers are reporting success signing up now whereas yesterday morning it wasn’t working.

The Offer

Link for all cards (including business) | Offer landing page

  • Earn 10X total points on up to $3,500 in combined purchases spent at gas stations and restaurants between July 15 and September 15, 2020. This includes eligible delivery services such as GrubHub and DoorDash.

Offer valid on the following credit cards: Marriott Bonvoy Boundless, Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business, The Ritz-Carlton, Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott Bonvoy Premier, and Marriott Bonvoy Business.

The Fine Print

  • To be eligible for this bonus offer, you must activate by 09/15/20 11:59 p.m. E.T.
  • You will earn a total of 10 points for each $1 spent, on up to $3,500 in total combined purchases, in the restaurant and gas station categories from 07/15/2020 to 09/15/2020.
  • That’s 9, 8, 7, or 6 points on top of the 1, 2, 3, or 4 points you already earn on those purchases with your card, depending on the category and which Marriott credit card you are using.
  • Merchants who accept Visa/Mastercard credit cards are assigned a merchant code, which is determined by the merchant or its processor in accordance with Visa/Mastercard procedures based on the kinds of products and services they primarily sell. We group similar merchant codes into categories for purposes of making rewards offers to you.
  • Please note: We make every effort to include all relevant merchant codes in our rewards categories. However, even though a merchant or some of the items that it sells may appear to fit within a rewards category, the merchant may not have a merchant code in that category. When this occurs, purchases with that merchant won’t qualify for rewards offers on purchases in that category.
  • Purchases submitted by you, an authorized user, or the merchant through third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, online or mobile digital wallets, or similar technology will not qualify in a rewards category if the technology is not set up to process the purchase in that rewards category.
  • For more information about Chase rewards categories, chase.com/RewardsCategoryFAQs.
  • Purchases posted to your account with a transaction date during the offer period are eligible for this offer. Delays by the merchant, such as shipping, could extend the transaction date beyond the offer period.
  • Please allow up to 8 weeks after qualifying purchases post to your account for points to post to your account.
  • (“Purchases” do not include balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.)
  • To qualify for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. This bonus offer is non-transferable.

Our Verdict

These are nice spend offers on the popular gas and dining categories. Not sure if it’ll be possible to sign up until the start date of July 15th. There’s a separate spend offer on utilities and more showing on other Chase cards for July 1 – September 30.

Reader X. tipped us offer a few days ago about this upcoming Marriott/Ritz offer, having heard something from the retention team regarding the Ritz-Carlton credit card. Today, reader Vic accidentally chanced upon the offer page while trying to find the direct links to a separate spend offer from Chase.

Anyone know how long after statement closes do these points show up to be applied toward a hotel stay? I need to book one ASAP and statement just now closed? If it take a while, I may have to pay with my card and not points.

Are there any rules about when card has to be opened to sign up for this offer? I will be down to 4/24 on 9/14. Which means I would have 1 day to add offer if everything goes perfect with application. (Not sure if this would even work). Then 2 weeks to use the 10x.

You don’t have to wait till 9/14 to be out of 5/24, you have already down to 4/24 on 09/01 since 5/24 is monthly based, not daily based.

I still can’t activate it on my Boundless, but that could be because I just got the card on 7/16 and the promo started 7/15. Frequent Miler said they discussed the issues with Chase and Chase assured them that it was not targeted and you will retroactively earn the bonus points if you register by 9/15. I am losing faith on that, but doesn’t sound like sending a SM is helping based on other comments: https://frequentmiler.boardingarea.com/chase-marriott-cards-earn-10x-at-gas-stations-restaurants-on-up-to-3500-spend-ends-9-15-20/#comment-2298591

Chase SM response: The offer you are attempting to enroll is not available for the card. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you.

I SM’d Chase and called. Neither worked. SM said I was not eligible to add the offer. Call said it would be automatically applied yet the points haven’t showed up on my statements.

Thanks for the update Robin. I’m debating on signing up for this card today for the 100k offer. Went back to 4/24 yesterday. Not eligible for any Sapphire’s til 3/2022. Really like the flexible currency. Trying to figure out how to get to 120k pts for 2 transfer bonuses without a ton of spend. Considering transferring UR points to top off to 120k from approx 106k after hitting SUB.

What are you using the 120K Marriott points for? Transferring to an airline or redeeming at a property? And when do you go back under 5/24 after this next card? I did a MDD of both Hyatt and Marriott to go to 6/24 because I won’t be back under 5/24 until March. If you don’t have a need for SW or United then I would take those two over IHG or the other options. This chart needs to be updated with current offers, but does a good job ranking the values: https://milestomemories.com/chase-personal-card-rankings/

The 120k number specifically comes from the bonus you get when transferring to travel partners. 60k transferred 2 times would yield (20k + 5k bonus x 2) 50k airline miles for most transfers. It is a nice option that Marriott is a flex currency. I don’t have specific plans yet. But will be flying 5 -6 people to Florida again either next year or the following year. I will be back under 5/24 in Nov and then in April. I already have CSP, IHG Select and Premier and not a lot of opportunity to stay at Hyatt with where we typically travel. We also have a couple Hilton and Delta cards. Looking for a non-AMEX SUB that has good potential use options for mostly hotels and limited domestic coach air travel.

Okay I gotcha. Marriott is a good option if you have the potential need for hotels and flights due to the flexibility. I am pretty set on airline miles so that’s why I’m working on hotel cards now. Useful even when I don’t fly, like for weekend trips to the mountains around my state.
