I am going to open this sometime soon. I will try to finesse my way to another $200 for the merchant services. No clue how I will be able to do that though.

Note the “third full month” language. Better to open late in the month, e.g., by Oct. 31, than early in the month.

If you opened an account, care to share your experience? Especially with waiving these monthly fees.

I went to a few different branches in NY and was told that a site visit to your business location is mandatory (even for a sole proprietorship). I’m not quite sure how they would do a site visit for someone who sells stuff online from home. I doubt they would come inside your house but who knows?

Am I spoiled for thinking this offer is bad?

If M&T somehow waives fees first two months, this is essentially a $250 bonus for depositing $5000 for a month, can’t be bad.

William Charles if you email yourself the coupon from above link, this is what it says-Get a $300 cash bonus when you open your account and have a balance of at least $5,000 on the 90th day after account opening. Do you think a balance of $5000 is required on day 90 or for whole of third month? This is so confusing (i.e., so M&T)

At least with my experience with personal checking accounts (and to be fair, I have a quite a bit with those), M&T does not waive the fees even for the first month. Having said that, I imagine a manual override of the first month’s free is possible.

They waive my first month fee on my personal checking. They even took it out and put it back in to assert dominance.
