The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Fulton bank is offering a bonus of $150 when you open a new checking account either online or in branch when you complete the following requirements:
    • Make 10 debit card purchases within 60 days

The Fine Print

  • Promotion only available to visitors of this landing page that either apply online or generate a coupon utilizing the above links.
  • This offer is valid for new consumer checking accounts.
  • Promotion is limited to one $150 cash bonus per household/address.
  • Fulton Financial Corporation employees and immediate family members sharing a household are not eligible. May not be combined with any other offer. Offer may be withdrawn without notice.
  • This offer is valid when you open a new checking account between January 8, 2018 and December 31, 2018, and complete a minimum of 10 debit card purchases within 60 days after account opening.
  • $150 cash bonus will be credited to your checking account four to six weeks after the conditions above have been met and as long as the account is in good standing.
  • Customers are responsible for possible tax implications.

Avoiding Fees

Simply checking, student checking (16-22) and prime life interesting checking (50+) all have no monthly fee. Update: Apparently only the Simply Checking account is eligible, so go for that one.

Early Account Termination Fee

I can find no references to an early account termination fee on their website, nor other websites covering bank bonuses.

Our Verdict

Previously they had the same bonus but it required a direct deposit. Most people will find it significantly easier to meet the 10 debit card transactions than a direct deposit so this should be a better offer. This is especially true since it seemed somewhat strict on what did/didn’t count. Will be adding this one to our list of the best checking bonuses due to the fact there is no monthly fees to worry about and it’s easy to trigger the bonus. If you need some help on how to easily meet the debit card requirement, read this.

Big thanks to reader, akaak who let us know. Learn how to find bonuses and contribute to the site here.

I would be curious to know if anyone who did this promo this summer is able to get the bonus again. I think it was discussed last time, that a CSR stated the term “new checking account” means never having a checking account with Fulton before, as in, this is a once in a lifetime bonus. But, CSR’s aren’t always right.

Having SO sign-up this go around. Will report back if things go funky.

are they strict about the one person / one household? i wanted to apply for myself and SO

Holy wonky application site, Batman. Hopefully I did everything right. I assume you need to select the rewards debit card option towards the end — otherwise, they don’t issue a debit card?

Could always ask for one later, I am sure, but since it is a prereq. for the bonus, sooner better than later.

PROTIP – Have Credit Karma pulled up before applying. Their multiple choice identity questions are very specific (loan amounts/dates/etc. One is usually none of the above.

Applied for the Student account today, got a call back in about 30 minutes saying that I needed to re-apply because only the ‘Simply Checking’ Account was eligible for the bonus. Doesn’t make much difference since the Simply Checking also has no fees, but still good to know.

anyone ever did this one who was out of state or ny resident?

No go. They will not approve you. I am in North Jersey, just across the river from the city and was conditionally approved for the Simply Checking only to have them call me later in the day that they could not approve my application because they don’t service my area. Only central and south Jersey 🙁

Just applied and was conditionally approved, will receive email after it’s been processed. In NJ, but not in one of their targeted counties.

Are they inquiry sensitive.

Anyone know which bureau is used for ID verification questions? I froze all my reports so wondering which one to unfreeze before applying for this account.

Please read “A Beginners Guide To Bank Account Bonuses” & “Introduction To ChexSystems” under “Useful posts regarding bank bonuses”.

I think dzqm understands the bank is pulling ChexSystems. However I suspect when they verify your ID they’re going to do a soft pull on EQ/EX/TU, which may be a problem if all your reports are frozen.

That’s right, ice_corner. I understand that ChexSystems is used to review volume of accounts opened, activity, etc. by the bank (mostly automated, sometimes manual). But when apps (like this) are submitted over the internet/phone, the bank will use data from reporting agencies for verification. In most cases (at least ones that I’ve seen), such data comes from your LexisNexis/Equifax reports. Just wondering if anyone knows which source(s) this bank uses?

I would very much like to know too. I’ve had my TU and EQ reports frozen, EX unfrozen. The website has complained about not matching records. PS I live in MD.

Any DP on outer stater citizens applying for this offer?

In branch – likely. Online – very unlikely. It was suggested above that you may even need to be in the footprint counties.

Just got a call saying that I was out of their target area. I’m from Allegheny County PA. Not in their service counties. My application was sent through but they called to reject my application/account.

Did anyone get the approval message after submitting the app, but no confirming email?

Hodor

Never mind – I just received a call from the bank confirming that the app was approved and reminding me to send in the signature card, after which the bank will call me with “a few account opening questions” – whatever that means.

Got the approval message 1/9, mailed the signature page 1/10, but still haven’t received a call or email confirming the account opening.

Just be aware that they charge 0.50 per mobile deposit after the first 2 per monthly statement cycle. Only other bank I have seen that charges is USBank. This was part of the fee schedule they provided at account opening.
