[Expired] Fuel Rewards Network: Earn 15¢/Gallon with Grocery Store Purchases

Update 07/01/18: Deal has expired, view more Fuel Rewards deals here.

Update 04/18/18: Ok it’s back for real this time. Thanks to reader George

Update: I’m not very smart, I thought the offer was back but only the initial linking offer is.

Update 04/04/18: This has been extended again until June 20th, 2018.

Update 01/09/18: This has been extended until March 31st, 2018.

The Offer

Direct Link

Fuel Rewards network is Shell’s loyalty program (one of many gas programs). You can earn fuel rewards by using their shopping portal, purchasing select items at Shell stations, and by dining with their card-link program.

They’ve now added another way to earn which clearly outshines the other methods: grocery shopping.

  • Earn 15¢/gallon off your Shell gas fillup with each $100 in grocery store spend at participating stores

Giant Foods and Stop&Shop are FRN partners and are eligible for this 15¢ promo. There seem to be many other groceries affiliated with FRN as well – check the Location Search here (select Shop).

The Fine Print

  • Must pay for the groceries with a linked Mastercard; be sure to link the Mastercard before using it at the grocery store
  • Expires June 30th, 2018
  • Rewards will be added to your account in 5-7 business days
  • Available in select markets only

Final Thoughts

FRN used to be pretty much useless for me since there wasn’t any easy way to earn and rewards aren’t too useful for me being that Shell is more expensive. Both of those have now changed:

The only bummer for me is that I’d typically use my Amex Blue Cash card at the grocery store, and this promo is only for Mastercards. Best cards for groceries can be found here.

If you’re new to Fuel Rewards Network, here’s my referral link. On a related note, SD reports you can get 25¢/gallon by linking your Giant/SS with FRN if you haven’t done so already. Personally, I couldn’t get it to work.

Right now there’s a quadruple stack at Giant/SS: link FRN with Giant/SS and get 25¢, get 15¢ per $100 with Mastercard, double fuel points on VGC at Giant/SS,  10x points with a Sears Mastercard at the grocery.

I recently requested a card on Shell’s website to join the fuel rewards program. The website didn’t give me a confirmation that the address was saved. I then received about 30 fuel rewards cards in the mail all tied to the account.

The Fuel Rewards-Giant/Stop&Shop linked program is confusing, and what you get at any given gas station seems to vary (there’s a discussion of this at flyertalk). That said, this weekend, I did earn — and was able to use — the 15 cents/gallon off by buying gift cards at a Giant with a Mastercard. It didn’t even touch the Giant gas rewards I also earned! So, obviously, this can be a very lucrative deal if your gas station can properly process the stacking discounts. From what I can tell, I can keep buying gift cards at Giant through the end of the year with a Mastercard and get the lucrative Fuel Rewards bonus regardless of earning Giant gas rewards (something that’s particularly valuable if you travel, because FR aren’t limited to participating Giant gas stations). I hope this is a correct interpretation of the bonus.

You’ll be getting a max of $3 with this deal, if you can buy 20 gallons of fuel on a single fill.
If there are any hoops to jump through or other effort involved, i’ll definitely pass.
I do use the free 25c/gal discounts from Tmo Tuesdays though, when they come up.

This is not true. It is 15 cents PER $100 spent. So if you buy $500, that’s 75 cents off on up to 20 gallons. Essentially this is $15.00 off gas for every $500 gift card purchased. Also, per the terms of this deal, the maximum cumulative discount for this promotion is $125.00 per gallon. I’ve already used it to save over $60.00 on fuel with just 3 fill ups.

So if I read you right, for this week, you could buy a MC GC at S&S, earn 1000 S&S fuel points, come outside, open and link the MC you just bought to Fuel rewards site, go back in buy another MC with that MC (if your store allows buying MC with GC that is) and earn 1000 S&S points plus 75 cents in Fuel Rewards, rinse and repeat until your store runs out of MCs or you drop out tired? Each trip into the store would then net 1000 S&S gas points and 75cent fuel rewards except the first one.

Sorry @HarryTheFirstHarry
I don’t think spend/tracking works with prepaid cards.

Did you use your Giant card or Shell Fuel Rewards card @ the pump? I assume that if the two programs are linked, you could use the Giant card and Shell Fuel Reward credit would apply.

You may need to use the FR card. What happened to me is that I couldn’t get the Giant card to start a Fuel Rewards account on the Giant site. So I went to FR site, started an account, and linked my Giant card from there. POOF! It showed up.

Went to Shell, used the Giant card and only got the Giant points, no FR points. Next time at Shell, used the phone number I had on FR and it linked properly and I got both the FR and Giant points..

YMMV because there were so many moving parts to this, but I’d make sure the Giant card was showing up on FR and then use the FR card or number.

IAHPHX: Thanks for testing this out for the group and reporting your results. I’m still confused though.

For sustainability purposes, is it possible to use any credit card ( Visa Mastercard Amex discover) at Giant supermarket to buy gift cards (even if Giant is not awarding THEIR gas points for gift card card purchases) , and still earn $0.10 per gallon discount per hundred, with no cap, in fuel rewards network points?

And then if Giant did have, say, a 2X gas points promotion on its gift cards, and I bought $1,000 worth of gift cards, then would I earn 2000 Giant gas points and 1000 fuel rewards network gas points, and would the sum of 1000 + 2000 add up and show up in my Giant gas rewards account online as 3000 gas points? Or would the 3000 points show up in my Fuel Rewards account online? Or would the two separate Point earnings 2000 from Giant, and 1000 from Fuel Rewards stay in their own separate accounts to be used separately for separate redemptions at Giant gas station and then at Shell gas station?

Thanks for your help and what state do you live in? I am in Pennsylvania.

This is good news. But FWIW this isn’t new, just them circling back to a more attractive grocery reward. I was getting 15 cents per $100 at Winn Dixie several months ago but they dropped it when WD switched to Plenti. This is odd but welcome.

If you link your IHG card, you’ll get $0.06 / gal off.

So sad by this. I was a WD shopper and linked my winn Dixie rewards to FRN prior to the switch to plenty. I was able to buy $500 VGC’s at WD with my AMEX BCP…. Lots of cash back from AMEX, lots of FRN rewards…
There are no giants in my area 🙁

Very interesting! It seems like DEN has nothing — only stores listed are Jiffy Lube and Clarks. However, in Austin, every grocery store is listed — from WFM and Trader Joe’s, to Randalls (Safeway) and the local corner shops.

Thanks for the pointer! I wonder when did it start — I might have been missing out!

If you expand the search radius to 50 miles outside Denver , looks like King Soopers and Safeway in Monument and the Springs are included

FRN network gives $0.05/gallon extra on Tuesday with Big Ten Tuesday Promo
FRN network gives $0.01/gallon extra for linking your IHG Mastercard ($0.05/gallon standard for having FRN rewards card).

Jason

$0.05/gallon x 20 gallons=$1
This is big saving and I wish I could embrace it

Hey Doc, I had issues linking as well – it did not seem to award the 25c after linking in firefox. I had to do it in a Chrome incognito window and this time it did link but the 25c did not show up. You can confirm that it did the link if the Fuel Rewards will not appear under “Available Programs” on your dashboard (A+ schoold rewards is the other program that shows up next to this one). Then I closed the incognito window and went back to the link to confirm (http://stopandshop.com/gas-program/), relogged into my account and then it showed the 25c.

CM

Wait, so, can someone explain how it works? Is there only one 25 cents per gallon discount available for use per fill up, or can you have multiple? If just one, then indeed kinda useless. You can have up to 100 cents off with Safeway and Kroger at their stations; plus, their prices are actually often lower, too.

Ffs. Go get spoon fed somewhere else.

My S&S account now shows $1.90 off per gallon since I linked S&S and Shell Fuel Rewards. Bought $5K VGC’s yesterday. Went to my shell fuel rewards account and it says under My Fuel Rewards, “$11.27” savings per gallon. The way I see it, Shell will owe me $’s on my next fill-up!

CM

No joke, I got 8 cents per energy drink at 7/11 recently when they were running a promotion. It confused some cashers, some demanded payment, some wrote it off either way, some actually given me the change.

Hey, if you’re going to make me addicted to your energy drink, might as well pay me, too!

That brings up a question I’ve had on this. What happens when you have more than the cost per gallon in rewards. Does it use all the rewards or just up to the cost of gas? For example, if gas is $2.49 a gallon and you have $3.50 in rewards?

momosan
momosan

It may depend if you use your Giant card or your FR card.

Giant limits you to $1.50 off per gallon, if you have more points than that, it will just deduct the 1500 points.

In theory, you might have enough FR $ off to go over the price, but it will probably zero you out at the pump.

If you have a combo of of FR and Giant, I’m honestly not sure which bucket it will take from to get you to zero, but it will probably not let you go negative. And I’ve never been successful using the Giant card to register the FR bonuses, while I have gotten the FR card to register the Giant points. FR limits you to 20 gallons, so you can’t fill up a dually with free gas using a combo of FR + Giant.

Back in the day, I zeroed out at Shell a few times on Giant points, they’ve since slowed my cheap gas game with their limit. BTW, to figure this out, I just checked my FR account and discovered I have a mystery $0.25 bonus there for some reason. I’ll take it!

The Giant $1.50 off per gallon will stack with FR discount. I’ve been getting $1.65 off per gallon from getting $1.50 off with Giant and $0.15 off with FR!

I live in an area with several Stop & Shops but I do not see anything in my FRN account about this promotion. Therefore, I’m guessing it’s not available in my market.

Jimmy

Nevermind. False alarm. I wasn’t looking in my FRN under Earn > MasterCard offers. It is there.

Paid $0.38 cents for 20 gallons tonight. $0.019 per gallon. Signed up of Giant fuel reward for an extra $0.25 off and it worked. Going to sign up Wife & kid’s tonight. Bought $16K VGC’s last week and my Shell account shows getting Shell rewards points per $ spent during 2 X S&S gas points on VGC’s. Will buy more VGC’s tomorrow to test if you get the $0.15 off for every $100 spent @ S&S w/o promo on VGC’s. This is even better than the days you could get $2.20 off per gallon. Here’s my referral if interested. Would appreciate signing up even if you don’t use.

Have you been able to find a way to use the points besides fuel. I have tons of Fuel Rewards that are expiring in a couple months than I can redeem. Any way to use this inside Shell store for other products..? Thanks!

This is How you can stack the deal
Link the Fuel Reward to your sears Master card
Buy GIft Cards from Stop and Shop – VIsa Metabank
Current promo is 10% back in Thank You Points
You will not get any points through Stop and SHop but through Master card 15c/ Galllon so 500 Visa will give 75Cents / Gallon for 20 gallons. So almost free gas – that is equivalent to fee free visa cards

Continued through 3/31/18. Free fuel for another quarter!

Can link 5 diff MC, but only 1 of mine actually earns FRs, so system is glitchy at best. Supposed to be able to link Amex cards (for other offers) but continually get errors when attempting to link. FR CS is useless when attempting to resolve this problem. FWIW, was told can link 5 ea MC, 5 Visa, 5 Amex (total of 15 cards)

Steve F
Steve F

That sucks MSer. I have two cards linked without issue. I did however have one card un-linked from Dining Rewards when I linked it to Fuel Rewards. Could that be the cause of your problem too? Do you use Dining Rewards?
