There are lots of CUs with overlapping names, this is just one example. Those with identical/near-identical names tend to be in different states, though. Always check which state to be sure. This one is Iowa only.
I wonder how long this credit union in IA has been around (and named Affinity).
There’s an existing (likely much larger) credit union called Affinity FEDERAL Credit Union (was once known as AT&T Employees Federal Credit Union). If you google search “Affinity Credit Union,” Affinity FCU (the FEDERAL version) comes up as the 1st search result.
In the banking world, if these were FOR PROFIT banks, whichever one can prove ownership of the name “Affinity” first would likely sue the other one into submission (i.e. forcing them to change their name). Not sure if CU’s will care about the similar names.
At least DoC was CRYSTAL CLEAR in identifying that this CU is in IA only. I don’t think Affinity FCU has any branches in IA.
