Mercedes-Benz Platinum Language Not Being Enforced

In case you didn’t know American Express will be discontinuing the Mercedes-Benz program in 2019. You can still apply for the cards, but they will be converted to another American Express card when the program is discontinued. Because of that a lot of readers want to get the sign up bonus on the Mercedes-Benz Platinum card before it’s discontinued, this is because you can only get the sign up bonus on each American Express card once. American Express also added the following language to the Mercedes-Benz Platinum card when the discontinuation was announced:

  • This offer is not valid for existing Platinum Card Members from American Express.

This would mean if you have another variation of the Platinum card from American Express you would not be eligible for this Mercedes-Benz card. Reddit user second_most has both the regular Platinum, Business Platinum & Ameriprise Platinum and signed up for the Mercedes-Benz Platinum. They meet the minimum spend requirement on 3/15 and the points posted 3/17. perpetualChurner has the regular Platinum and also received the sign up bonus on the Mercedes-Benz card. Obviously no guarantees this will be the case if you sign up, but definitely a good sign.

Anyone who applied on or after 3/27 NOT have the sign-up bonus post promptly (usual 2-3 business days after min spend is met)? And also did not receive the $100 MB Genuine Accessory voucher?

I haven’t gotten either yet and met the minimum spend well over a month ago. I haven’t contacted them yet, however. Anyone else have anything like this happen yet?

Hi my AF for the personal Plat hits next month & Mercedes bonus should hit next week. Will you just cancel your personal Plat before Mercedes switches to a personal Plat next year? Should I even bother asking for any retention offers? Thanks!

I’m in the same boat Larry. Regular platinum AF hits next month. Do I cancel it now before hitting the MS on Benz or hit the MS first and cancel next month? Decisions…..

I’ve got the personal plat right now, a bit skeptical if I should apply for this and try the spending in the first month. I wish we had more time, my AF for the personal plat kicks in May.

I don’t have any plat card now, but I wonder if I apply for this one and the product get converted to the normal personal plat Jan 2019, does that mean I won’t get any sign-up bonus(or maybe can’t even apply for a duplicate product) for the personal plat in the future?(Since I will be having a personal plat Jan 2019)

For anyone that has applied very recently (after 8pm Central time for example 3/27) please let us know if it was instantly approved or went to pending. I currently have the personal Plat but wanted to see if I get any good retention offers before canceling and applying for MB. But if it goes to pending for everyone then perhaps they’re no longer approving it.

ur inquiry makes no sense. instant approval is based on many automated factors. u dont need to cancel shit before applying for MB. just do it.

This was in response to Ed’s comment above: “I just called Amex to cancel my personal plat, planning to sign up for the Benz Plat. However they told me I can still fill in the application all the way till 4/1, however these applications will not be approved anymore. Hope he’s telling the truth and not just because I want to cancel my current plat.” Looks like CS is totally wrong multiple DP’s of approvals today. Do you suggest I cancel my vanilla next month when AF hits before hitting the min spend on MB? Thanks.

I’m new to the Amex one-in-a-life-time rewards. So, can anyone one confirm if I apply for this M.B.A.E.P card, will I EVER get a bonus on ANY other Platinum card? or, ARE all Platinum variations considered different products? … Mercedez Benz sent me an offer a few months ago for this card but not sure if I should wait for 100,000 points on any other Amex Platinum card… Should I take the hit?

As discussed in this post, each Platinum product (regular, MB, Schwab, etc) was always considered separate for signup bonuses. Then there was a scare that this stopped. In this post, we wrote that in reality it seems to still being considered separate products, despite the terms.
