Avoiding Fees
Everything Checking Account $5 Monthly
The Everything checking account has a $5 monthly fee, it’s waived if either of the following conditions is met:
- Six payments via check, Online Banking bill payments, Telephone Banking bill payments, ACH debit, or Point of Sale transactions (both signature or PIN based) posted to the account.
- You have an average checking balance of $2,500 or more
Early Account Termination Fee
Need to keep account open for one year to get full bonus, but $25/180 EATF otherwise.
Our Verdict
Bigger bonus we’ve seen before is $400. This is a slightly different offer, but still very much worth doing in my opinion. It’s annoying you need to keep the account open for a full year to get the full bonus. I’ll be adding this to our list of the best checking bonuses. There is also a $400 bonus for military members.

Wells Fargo did not work for DD “DIR WELLS FARGO IFI INTFITRVOS BR DDA TO DDA”
DId you do the debit purchase AFTER the DD? Anything “DIR” likely works.

I’m in Cincinnati and looks like the only branches in Ohio are in Cleveland. It let me open the account and create an online account, which is farther than I got last time I tried in Nov ’23. I think I’ll wait a couple weeks before setting up my DD in case they decide to close my account after a few days after I was approved and they took my opening deposit like they did last time.
Closest branch is at least 170 miles away, but my zip works. Are they closing the account after letting you open online?
[OOS attempt]: Sorry, the ZIP Code you entered is out of our service area. If you mistyped your ZIP Code, please try again.
I am in Columbus, Ohio and there are no branches within 50 miles. Has anyone else in Ohio not within 50 miles of their branches in Ohio applied and been approved?
I received this bonus in 2020 and 2021. When I attempted to open in late 2022 again that’s when I was denied due to being outside the service area despite being within an approved state. I think the only way to get around the restrictions now is opening in branch.

Not so sure if that is true now. Their website does filter by zip code, which I don’t believe it use to do. I tried a central VA zip and it gives an error.
“Sorry, the ZIP Code you entered is out of our service area. If you mistyped your ZIP Code, please try again.”
Looks like
Matt got in from out-of-footprint (supposedly a 50-mile radius per a Dollar rep)… but it will be awhile until they know if it pays out.
Hey Gadget! I don’t see Central Virginia mentioned very often in this hobby. I’m in Lynchburg–are you nearby?
No, I am in footprint for Dollar Bank in VA… I was just testing to see the error.
I just saw Matt was able to get through the zip code filter. I may give this one another go and keep my fingers crossed.
I might go for this, just don’t want them to pull rug at the very end.I used to have account with them so not sure they will approve me after manual review. Will keep y’all posted.
Banker told me this is targeted promotion. I asked the banker the promo code. CHK22 CHK24 or DM600. I’m very confused. Hope someone give me a definite answer. Thanks !
2024 Q3: Account open in branch with the actual snail mail flyer. Inquired 3x to confirm the promo code is attached. Banker confirmed YES.
* Used real DDs to hit $5K.
* $300 organic spend on debit card. NO BONUS!
* Sent secure message to verify the promo code is attached. Marketing team confirmed it was NOT, and to go in-branch to remedy.
* Visited local branch (5 minutes away). Branch Manager called Marketing team to backdate the promo since the promo expired.
* Waited 2 weeks (did NOT go for another round of $5K DDs) and made a small debit card purchase. Purchase rebate posted the very next day.
How tight are they for being in market area. I am in PA but closer to Philly. Do I have to be within certain range of their zone? Thanks in advance.
Per #1043072 , 50 miles from nearest branch is the limit. I have no way to verify.

10/31/24 – Account Opened
12/26/24 – $5,000 ACH from Chase Business Checking
1/08/25 – Debit Card PayPal reload
1/08/25 – $300 Debit Card Purchase Rebate
I decided to contact them by secure message last week about not receiving the debit card rebate “bonus” and then assuming they said I didn’t qualify, I was going to ask to close the account, however I got a surprising reply today especially considering my “direct deposits” were from Fidelity:
I got word from my marketing department today that your account has met the direct deposit requirement and has been updated to start receiving the debit card rebates when you use your card. This should be effective by tomorrow morning at the latest.
Next time you use your card, review the account to confirm the rebates are posting to your account.
I got the same message.
Fail P1 DP:
9/12/2024 applied and account opened promo code: DM600
9/13/2024 old login info used, new account # appears
10/8/2024 Schwab push $5000
10/15/2024 3 POS transactions test – no reimbursement
12/2/2024 gave up, closed account
side note: I moved since the last time I owned the account, from in service area to outside of service area. Unclear if my DP is proof that Schwab does not work or if they are strict on address zoning for promo.
I’m in the same boat. Never got the bonus and getting ready to give up and close. Did they charge you an early closure fee?
no fees on my end
I thought out of footprint folks end up getting their account closed, not denied the bonus…
Maybe because we had accounts with them previously, they let us open accounts again but not be eligible for the bonus?
I have churned it and mine paid out. See #1914768
But anything is possible. I felt the promo was supposed to be targeted by the DM “Direct Marketing” code and maybe they got wise to it.
I’m in the footprint, hit the DD requirement with employer payroll and no bonus yet.
And if I remember correctly from another post, you called them and said to keep waiting right?
Yes via SM, they said wait for 40 days. At day 40 I messaged again and they said that future debit card rebates would post. I asked them why I needed to charge again, since I hit the DD first with employer payroll and then charged $300 ($50 and $250) on the debit card at Costco for shop cards. I ended up depositing $300 cash, using cash app and triggering the $300 in rebates instead of waiting and arguing again.
targeted promo makes sense
