Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

Neither of these accounts have any monthly fees to worry about.

Early Account Termination Fee

I wasn’t able to find any fee schedule, so I’m unsure if there is any early account termination fee or not.

Our Verdict

Previous best deal was $100. This offer is significantly better. I do think this one is worth doing if you live in an eligible area, looks like you can also join by donating $5 to an organization but I think it’s still restricted to just KS & OK. I’ll be adding this to our list of the best checking bonuses.

Big thanks to reader, Laszlo T who let us know. Learn how to find bonuses and contribute to the site here.

Good, personable CU. Have opened an account about nine years ago when they offered high % on checking accounts. I think it is around 2% now so I only keep a few $ in there to keep it active (there are no requirements to keep it free). I did lose one checking account due to inactivity. They simply closed it without bothering to notify me.

Same here. I had $17.xxx in my reward checking account and they deducted inactivity fee until it was zero and closed it!

Good CU, unless something has changed it’s definitely a HP. At least it was when I opened my checking account about a year and a half ago.

Hp on what bureau

It is HP on Equifax. Once they approved you have submit notarized a signature card along with copies of 2 ID’s.

Membership requirements:
You qualify for membership if you:

Are employed by or retired from one of our business partners. (pretty long list though)

Have a family member who is a member of Communication Federal Credit Union.

Live or work in Broken Arrow, OK, or anywhere in Carter County or Pottawatomie County, OK.(CFCU has a community charter for these areas).

If you live in Oklahoma or Kansas you can join the Oklahomans for Energy and Jobs/Natural Resources Education Foundation, a non-profit group that is one of our select employee groups. Oklahoma or Kansas residents can join OEJ/NREF through our online application for a one-time $5 membership.

So it looks like you still need to live in OK/KS to join through the OEJ/NREF membership.

Also interesting that the home page shows a lower $150 bonus using the code CH18

So we have a recent DP that is only 5 days old saying no HP (HP can occur like a week after signing up, not always immediate!) and another DP saying HP 1.5 years ago.

Hmmm

Do you happen to have a link to the source for follow-up? Thanks!

William Charles multiple bank representatives indicated that a HP is indeed done on EQ and stressed that opening would be much easier in branch. Mailing in 2 forms of ID definitely required though. Received ambiguous answers about the notarization, but wasn’t expecting confirmation or denial.

2 forms of ID can be uploaded online

Hmm… In that case I wonder why they said it would be required to come in branch to complete account opening.

Maybe they were misinformed? I uploaded the ID at the end of the application. Still trying to figure out the signature card though.

Well maybe that’s the part that requires coming in branch…that would be pretty annoying

Do they email the signature card? I’m not seeing it on the site to download

Applied Sunday evening. The “Pending” email I got after submitting the app said it could take around 48 hours for the app to be reviewed. Heard nothing back through last night.

But just this morning I got a CK email alert of an EQ hard pull. 10 minutes later I got an email from CFCU that my account was approved. When I logged back in to my application, the link to print the signature card was there. Kind of annoying to have to go have it notarized.

I never did see a list of what documents they consider suitable for the two IDs–did anyone else? I guess I’ll go ahead and use my passport and DL just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the update.

Acceptable Secondary Forms of Identification:

Social Security Card
Unexpired Auto Insurance Card with your legal name and current physical address
Local Utility Bill in your legal name and current physical address
Property Tax Bill
Current Voter Registration Card ( issued in state of residence )
Unexpired Temporary Drivers License
Unexpired Student ID Card

Approved pending signature card. Printed, signed, notarized, scanned and uploaded one. Hard pull on Equifax. Waiting to be fully available to set up direct deposit form work.

Fully approved, signed up for online access. Added DD from work, will see how it goes.

How long did it take after submitting the signature card?

A couple of days probably. They also called me, greeted and reminded to sign up for e-statements (among other things) so that I qualify for the $250 bonus. So nice of them!

Money Market 2k minimum funding. Allowed CC and is now pending.

Successfully funded Checking and Money Market for 2500 using CSP.

Anyone receive the debit card yet? Submitted the documents 2 weeks ago and haven’t received it.

I received mine about a week after opening the account.

Thanks. Called and found out they hadn’t ordered the card

Funded $510 with Chase SW biz

Serve counts as a DD. Received an email tonight saying what requirements I had completed so far for the bonus
