Chase doesn’t prohibit buying gift cards. They do frown on recycling your CL and spending over your credit limit on other cards, especially if they shut you down 3 years earlier for much the same thing and you just got another one of their cards a few months ago. You quickly become too much of a risk, especially in this economy.

My guess is a Chase superivisor received an alert that Vinh’s wife went over her CL. Reviewed her account and saw the previous shutdown on her Chase accounts, and then shutdown her accounts for the 2nd time.

I’m glad that there are people like Miles to Memories who push the envelope and bring us useful data points (of what not to do), but when people point out the obvious to him he’s being a complete jackass. There is no need for that…

He is not perfect like all of us. At least he posted about his mistake. Most bloggers will not post their errors. Do you think TPG and others blogs like TPG post about deals that went bad?

it’s actually oddly funny to see him rip noobs. I can’t imagine that would be good for viewership but gosh its satisfying…

Anyone have done mortgage forbearance? What are the details? Are the payments just suspended? Are they charging interest on the missed payments?

My bank gives an option to request it but doesn’t give any details.

In Chase shutdown post author says he had 6k+ on a card with 4.5k CL. Does AMEX let you go over CL on credit cards?

They do. Sometimes, it’s automatic, but there’s also somewhere on the website where you can pre-check your spending limit and they can also let you know beforehand if they’ll approve the charge.

And any amount over your credit limit is included in your minimum payment.

How can people complain about or question a shut down after buying large amounts of gift cards? I’m so sick of these stories. It’s not news. If you don’t want to be shut down, USE THE CARDS ORGANICALLY. I have yet to read any of these shutdown stories that didn’t have some obvious justification.

I’m not against churning. But if you play a game against the house you will (almost) always lose. MS’ers need to quit writing articles/voicing concern about shutdowns.

I do not think Ving is complaining. He is just providing a DP for everyone else. He is one of the few bloggers that posts about losses along with the wins. Most bloggers only publish their successes.

I didn’t read this article but most of the articles I’ve read from that guy show that he’s a jerk. You act like he is some kind of honorable guy.

He is 100% gamer and one of the few gamers that publishes his mistakes and errors along with his wins. Few other blogs publish their mistakes and when Vinh does, people jump on top of him.

When I got my CSR, Chase checked my credit report a few months after approval, ostensibly to see if I was taking on more credit on other cards and was too much of a risk.

Why would you ramp up to $30K in gift cards the month after a Chase opening after a shutdown?

And they can’t figure out why they got shutdown. Not the smartest there.

They’re making an ass out of themselves in the comment section too. Guess you don’t need to be good at this hobby to have a blog.

I certainly they get a big bailout check from the government. The way things are, that sounds about right.

They say they spent 6.5K on gift cards (out of 44K total spend) within 4 months
