The Offer

Direct link to offer (our affiliate link)

  • Staples is offering $100 Mastercard gift cards for $101.95, limit of 3. This works out to be a discount of $5 over the normal price

The Fine Print

  • Limit of 3
  • Expires August 4th, 2018
  • Staples Plus Membership might be required? Not required

Our Verdict

Not a great deal considering you’re still paying $1.95 in fees for each card and the fact that they are only $100 cards. Office Depot/Max is also running their instant discount $10 deal on $300+ of Visa gift cards, making this deal look even worse in comparison. If you do go for this deal, make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply store purchases. Portals unfortunately do not pay out on these purchases. One way to make this deal better is if you have any of the following American Express offers:

You should warm people about rampant MasterCard fraud.

I think rampant fraud reported were mostly those sold on the racks of B&M. Should there be fraud from those sold online, it’ll be easy for the company to trace the culprits since these cards came from them. I have yet to read DPs of funds hacked from cards bought online.

Meh. More trouble than it’s worth.

for one 100$ is a pain, although there is 10% from Amex pending for me to use.Can we do bill pay with these?

I liquidate these by paying my Consumers bill each month… MCG or VCG’s both work. Hope this helps someone…John 3:16

Consumers expresspay is run by officialpayments, most vgc stopped working. Mixed reports iif usbank mgc like these still work.

Wouldn’t this work out to being the same as the OD deal?

Here’s how I’m seeing it:

OD:
You buy 2 $200 VGC’s
That’s $413.90 – $10 = $403.90

Staples:
You buy 2 $200 MGC’s
That’s $413.90 – $5 each = $403.90

I have a 10% back through B of A on my CC with them so that works out better for me. YMMV

(Note: I stand corrected I thought it worked on $200 too).

Could work with the 10% back on AMEX business card purchases at Staples which I have on 2 cards. But need to double check if that applies online (have already successfully redeemed the offer in store for VISA GCs).

10% AMEX offer has worked for me on 4 different online orders of VGCs

$100 Mastercard for $91.75? Yes please.

Using Chase ink to purchase $300 in cards would earn 1500 UR POINTS that are worth anywhere from $20 to $30 in redemption, so that’s pretty good for little effort and $6. I’m not familiar with the MC fraud issue though.

I’ll bite. This should be a MM with the 5% BankAmeriDeals

When are the $20 off $300 deals coming back???

Sooo…just ordered 3 for myself, checked out as guest

How would they monitor a limit of 3? Is it 3 per order? 3 per person? 3 per address? Thoughts? If I keep checking out as guest, with a different name but same address, couldn’t a guy keep ordering 3 at a time till the promo is over?

Eugene
Eugene

They don’t seem to monitor anything. I placed 2 orders under the same login. Both went through. For now at least.

Some us have been to this dance before. Until you actually receive and activate the cards your order can be cancelled. Not saying it will but it can.

William Charles No Staples Plus Membership required.

I just bought 3x$100 for $305.85, much better than 1x$300 VGC for $308.95 (and triggered AMEX 10% Offer) and am not a Staples Plus Member (though I am a Staples Rewards Premier member).

I have a 3% CC to use, but the math turns out to be $1.10/card profit so I would not go for this one.

TomJ
TomJ

Well, I bought 3 with a 5% back card. That means I pay $305.85 and get back $15.29. Profit is $9.44. That is a bit over 3%. Okay but not great.

BoA also has a (likely targeted) Bankamerideals offer for 10% back at Staples up to $11 to make this a much better deal.

I have Amex offer 10% back on my Amex Simply Cash CC + Simply Cash get back 5% on Office spending, each card get me back $15 not bad at all

I’m not sure if you’ll get 5% back on office supplies as Staples sends level 3 data to Amex.

Where does it say that gift cards are excluded for the 5%? I can’t find any exclusions.

Mr. PTM

My 10% Amex offer is capped at $5. I imagine yours is the same?

Mr. PTM

Nvm. There are two offers: one is generic for Office Supply stores and capped at $5 and the other is specific to Staples and capped at $100.

Well, it’s a better top up for a 3x$300 Amex Offer order than the Safeway gift cards I’ve been getting.
