Our Verdict

We’ve have seen the same upgrade bonus of 150,000 points in the past, but usually it’s  75,000 or 100,000 points. The good thing about upgrade offers is that you can get the bonus even if you’ve had the card before, that’s usually not possible. For more information about upgrade offers in general I’d recommend reading this post. We recently saw a bonus of 130,000 points & a free night certificate as a sign up bonus, so if you haven’t had this card before I’d recommend waiting for a better straight up sign up bonus. If you have had this card before then I’d recommend doing this upgrade offer.

Apart from letting your readers know about deals like this, even more thanks for highlighting the subject heading for this offer. I had been watching for this offer, even searched my email inboxes for various keywords (like Hilton or Surpass), yet wasn’t seeing it. Figured I wasn’t targeted and had moved on. Yet then belatedly occurred to me to look again, to search using a copy/paste of your report of the subject heading — and lo and behold, found it. 🙂

Escot, could you share the upgrade link in the email you received? Thanks!

My wife got the 150,000 as a welcome bonus offer through Amex’s pre-qualify tool in incognito mode. She also got the 100,000 Platinum offer that way. She has no current Amex cards. The only Amex card she ever had was the Costco card until Citi took it over.

Retrying this question:
I’m targeted, but I actually did this Surpass upgrade on 9/26/2017 (for 100k points then). Then I downgraded to no-fee. Now I have this 150k Surpass upgrade offer. Can someone confirm: Will I be able to get this Surpass upgrade bonus a second time? Thanks,
–Kyle

Legend has it that you’ll pop off after you put more spend on your amex cards.

Got this offer a month ago, hit the msr, and got the bonus maybe a week ago. Now, they’re offering 150k points to upgrade from surpass to aspire for 4k spend. I applied today and got accepted lol. Easy points for someone watching their 5/24

Did you statement post yet? If not any worry about upgrading before it does? I upgraded to the Ascend/Surpass and just got the signup bonus but my statement isn’t until later this month. Worried that if I upgrade they’ll claw back the bonus. I’ll admit that would be weird since it isn’t like I closed the card.

This same upgrade bonus was a public offer until some time in July. Me and SO both took advantage of it for 300,000 miles total.

I got an email to upgrade my Surpass card to the Aspire card. The weird thing is I upgraded the Surpass card from the No-AF Hilton card ~2 months ago. Should get the bonus this next statement. I also tried to apply for the Aspire card directly but got the ineligible popup. Once the bonus hits I might try to upgrade. Might just get another ineligible popup but who knows

My wife and I each got this upgrade a few months back. Pretty nice deal. I just got targeted for the 150k Aspire upgrade this afternoon as well. Decision time.

I plan on applying for the Aspire card as a new card sometime next year (as I dial down Marriott stays and move to Hilton as my “big chain”). If you upgrade, you can’t get a new-user bonus. But if you get a new user bonus, it doesn’t preclude you from getting an upgrade bonus later.
