[Targeted] AmEx Offer: Air Canada, Spend $750+ & Receive $150 Statement Credit/15,000 Membership Rewards

Some people have an offer for $1,000 in spend and 20,000 Membership Rewards back.

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get 15,000 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $750+ in one or more eligible transactions online at aircanada.com by 12/18/2019.
  • Other people have the same deal but for $150 instead of 15,000 Membership Rewards

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid for purchases made directly with Air Canada® through the U.S. website edition (aircanada.com/us/en), U.S. Phone Reservations, and Air Canada mobile+ app.
  • All purchases must be charged in USD to qualify.
  • Excludes gift cards, group bookings, hotels, car rentals, and Air Canada Vacations packages.
  • Not valid for purchases through Air Canada Cargo, Air Canada Jetz, partner sites, agents, affiliates and third parties that link to/from aircanada.com.

Our Verdict

Really only useful if you were planning on flying Air Canada anyway.

If i book award travel with AMEX points transferred to Aircanada/aeroplan and pay taxes (for 3 tickets it comes to nearly $800) will that be reimbursed by this promotion??

The tax has to be settled in USD, then you should be fine.

note Aeroplan phone booking fee doesn’t count

This could be a useful offer to folks looking for cheap coach flights to Asia or Europe. In the past year, I’ve bought tickets from the East Coast of the USA to Asia on AC for under $400, and for about $225 to Europe. I’m not sure if all these fares would actually ticket on AC’s own website, but it would be worth trying when they pop up if you’re travelling with others and can meet the spending requirements. Sites like secretflying and theflightdeal have these cheap AC fares regularly. AC acts a bit like a discount player from the USA to overseas. And, if you have UA elite status, you can earn real mileage on these AC fares — much more than you’d earn flying UA.

Hope I had it

For these kinds of airfar offer, do we receive the additional MR immediately after booking the fare or way later? Did the KLM offer earlier but still haven’t received the MR….
