The Offer
No direct link, targeted offer
- Get $1,000 back as a one-time statement credit by using your enrolled eligible Card to make a single Autonomy electric vehicle subscription purchase of $1,000 or more through the Autonomy App by 9/30/2023
The Fine Print
- Offer valid for Autonomy electric vehicle subscriptions purchased through the mobile app. Qualifying purchases must be made directly through the Autonomy app which can be downloaded online at US website autonomy.com/partner/amex
Our Verdict
Unfortunately there is a set up/start fee. The cheapest I could get the start fee down to was $1,000 and then the car itself was $1,000 a m0nth so no freebie play unfortunately.

I’m now seeing certain Vinfast cars for $750/m with $0 down payment
Which model is that? The lowest I see is a VinFast VF8-CE eco at $299/mo $0 down
Did you take the lease? This looks like it would be less than $1000 if we take it. I am also interested
can you pay a $1,000 a month for the first month, then next month you use another card, then another. this offer is till September, so potentially 3 months for free?
month 1 they’ll charge $2500 incl $1000 startup fee and $500 security deposit.
so at minimum it’ll cost $1500 for first month. for a model 3.
very bad deal.
Autonomy is started by Scott Painter. I expect it to go up in flames like his previous ventures very shortly…
“Scott is one of the leading serial entrepreneurs in the automotive space. He has launched innovative business models that have repeatedly transformed the industry. In 2020 he founded this company as an automotive subscription platform that enables vehicle subscription to thrive as a sustainable business model in automotive retail.
In 2016, he founded Fair, a used vehicle subscription company. Fair pioneered the Car-as-a-Service (CaaS) model by offering affordable, convenient, and flexible car subscriptions.
In 2005 he founded TrueCar (NASDAQ: TRUE), changing how consumers purchase vehicles by providing transparent vehicle transaction data. He served as the CEO of TrueCar, taking it public in 2014. Mr. Painter also founded CarsDirect.com (now Internet Brands), introducing the first generation of online car sites. “
Yeah overall very bad deal. You either pay through the nose for the ‘start up’ fee or the monthly rate.
So…an expensive lease? Am I missing something about their business model?
William Charles Kind of related, maybe it would be worth it to do a post on the EV tax credits? I wasn’t fully aware of them until just recently and they definitely make a EV worth a much closer look 🤷♂️

Not worth it. Lowest I could get is $1k per month + $1k start fee as well. The fact there’s a start fee aka down payment on something you are literally renting is crazy… just go to Hertz
Yeah, Hertz you can rent a Tesla for like $600-700 a month if you put in the right discount codes.
$6k start fee folks, this is robbery
One-time statement credit of $1000 to Card Members includes a $500 refund of Subscriber’s security deposit and $500 savings off the cost of a Subscription.
that’s surprisingly skeevy. they’re probably one of those shady businesses you’ll be glad to have avoided, saving a lot of potential inevitable hassle and headache.

It must show cars based on your location. I have a $299 option for the VinFast VF 8-CE Eco (CA only), and a $390 Tesla Model 3. Not a bad way to get into an EV!
you get the $390 pricing only if you put a $6100 downpayment. with a $1000 downpayment/start fee, Model 3 costs $1000/mo.
there’s also sales tax on the start fee as well as each monthly payment.
plus a $500 security deposit.
$390 for the Model 3 requires a $6,100 start fee for me.
Yes, but the start fee on those is probably about $7k so not comparable
Got on both Amex cards(P1+P2) – not sure how to play this though. Pay partial via both cards?
let me know if this works
Did this work or not? Did you get credit on both cards?
