[Targeted] AmEx Offer: Instacart, Spend $50+ & Receive $25 Statement Credit (Can Be Done Twice)

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get $25 statement credit by using your enrolled card to spend a minimum of $50+ in one or more transactions online at instacart.com or through the instacart app by 12/31/19. Limit two statement credits

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid online and through the app

Our Verdict

Should be able to stack with the 10% online grocery stores. I’m sure there are are some stacking opportunities here, but I’m really not that familiar with instacart. If anybody knows of any please share in the comments below.

Spend 50 (or more) and get 25 back.
What’s there not to like about this offer.

That instacart prices are usually already a 100% markup from whatever store you are buying from before delivery fee? Basically trading $50 for $22 of groceries and 25k MR. Still a good value, but not nearly a no brainer.

Would like feedback from Instacart users, if there are any. I Google’d instacart reviews and I suppose that I should just plan on paying and not getting deliveries. $25 off $50 might not be enough to try this poorly run service.

i feel it’s about a 10% markup, not 100% as other user stated. perhaps it depends where you live. i was just at aldi the other day and already looked at the prices. for an item that was marked $2, it’s $2.20 and for a 30cent item, it was 35cents, so i’m just getting extra pantry items that i can stock up on, as i really dont need anything at the moment, but i can always get extra gravy, extra mac n cheese, extra jelly, etc, things that can last a while in the pantry. i figure on $50, the $5 for the 10% instacart, plus it’s adding $2.50 for a tip (you can change it, but i will leave it as is), so it boils down to $50 of groceries but lose $7.50 for fees/markup, but then get $25 back, so a gain of about $18. or 36% off the groceries. i’m good with that!! this is the first time i’ve done the instacart since i didnt want to be out the fees, but with the incentive of $18 off after fees, i think it’s great. im gonna do it twice too.

also, first time users get $20.00 off and free delivery, you can essentially get 70.00 dollars worth of stuff for $25.00 and if they 10% back on online purchase works that will bring total cost to $20.00

For my local Kroger store, Instacart terms say: “Standard store pricing. Loyalty cards not accepted. Most in-store sales, promotions, offers, coupons and discounts do not apply.”

So, when you walk the aisles, like a third of the items say for example regularly $4, but $2.25 with Kroger card — Instacart charges you $4. If you’re the kind of shopper who always buys the same things, not paying attention to sales or comparison shopping, Instacart is hardly a markup. But if you’re like me always looking for the best value, a 100% aggregate markup sounds about right. It’s easy at Kroger, since the receipts tell you how much you saved through sales, digital coupons, etc: that all goes away through Instacart.

Wow that would kill it for me too

If you are BJs member, you can use this offer via BJs ‘same day delivery’. That delivery occurs thru Instacart and it shows up as instacart purchase on your cc. And BJs is a lot cheaper than instacart. BJs-instacart wont let you use BJs coupons but there arent really any coupons on diary/produce etc at all.. so use it for that. BJs often runs free delivery promos for same day delivery when you dont pay any delivery fee, like they are running until Halloween.

Did you get the instacart credit for using BJ’s same day delivery? Thanks!

My local liquor store, Binny’s, has the same prices. I have stocked up on wine and liquor. Multiple orders. The mark up is the instacart delivery fees and tips. I signed up for the free 2 week trail to avoid these.

There is an AMEX Offer for 10% back on Online Grocery Stores (specifically FreshDirect, Instacart, and Peapod), maximum of $10 back. Valid until 11/14/2019. I assume this would stack with the latest Instacart offer.

Derek
Derek

YMMV, Instacart AO was on each of my cards EXCEPT the ones were I loaded the Online Grocery Store earlier this year.

There is also a 2500 MR version of this as well. I got both the MR and the $25 one on different cards. Thanks for the heads up.

That’s the offer I got.

As I read them, the T&C do not seem to exclude alcohol. Correct?

Tried it this afternoon at Sam’s club. This offer stacked with $15 credit that they sent me in email. So I ordered $60 worth of stuffs, after credit, fees, and tip the total was $61. I tried to play safe in case shoppers can’t find my items and make the total <$50
I realized that small and light items are overpriced by $.30. Large item like dog food is $2-3. The app suggested me to tip 5% but I changed it to 9%. Not sure how much to tip.

Rohith

FYI – the $50 total can be done in one or more transactions.

$0? They do their job nothing else.

I saw an ad for Instacart on facebook for a $100 credit ($10 credit for each of the next 10 deliveries). I thought this would stack with a referral offer (my AU has the same offer on her Amex Gold). Needless to say, the promotional code and the referral code do not stack; it only credited $10 at a time. The promotional code and the Amex Offer still stack, of course.

Anyone know if it works on gift card as well ? Trying to stack so to save up on delivery fee if it does

Curmudgeon
Curmudgeon

I tried adding one and it said gift cards can’t be purchased for delivery. Don’t know if that’s system wide or just my grocery store (HyVee)

We are in a total bubble of these delivery services that add no real value. I guess they are just hoping to attract new customers using VC cash to make themselves more attractive for an IPO. But how many grocery delivery services do we really need? I have a backlog of offers for first time users of so many of these services. Can’t use them as quickly as they keep popping up.

When signing up for InstaCart, they are offering the Express membership which gives you free deliveries (otherwise $3.99 each) for a 15 day trial period. It unfortunately auto renews at day 16 for the annual rate of $99, but if you end up cancelling in the first couple of weeks of paid membership they will refund your annual fee as long as no deliveries have been made. If you have even one delivery during that first 2 weeks, then it’s not refundable at all.

Once the account is set up, you get a referral link good for a $10 discount to your friend and $10 for you. Max of five paid referral fees.

missjenniferd1🦉 🦁

cancel before the 15th day and you should be fine. i dont see anywhere that i have to pay at all if i cancel within 15 days, regardless of deliveries. obviously there will be deliveries made during the trial, as they offer it to you during checkout. i think there would be a lot of complaints if they offer a free trial and then charge you for it…
EDIT:
i see now where you saw that. that is for a paid membership. for the free trial, that is not the case, on the free trial the terms are in the next paragraph after the paragraph you saw about not getting a refund for a paid membership… that does not apply here, we are in the terms in the next paragraph which reads:

From time to time, Instacart offers some customers trial or other promotional memberships to Instacart Express. Such trial or promotional memberships are subject to these Terms except as otherwise stated in the promotional offer and are for new customers or certain members only. Only one trial or promotional membership is available per household. Instacart will charge you the applicable fee after your free trial period has expired to the credit card on file with Instacart. If you cancel Instacart Express before the trial period has expired, Instacart will not charge you. Instacart may change the monthly or annual fee charged for Instacart Express at any time, but any such fee change will not apply to current Instacart Express members until such time as your current membership expires and your membership is renewed for another term.

Great offer, as you can use Instacart to do Costco shopping at slightly higher prices.
Also you can get $15 off on your new order on Instacart plus free delivery for two weeks by signing up for their instacart membership trial.

Brian C

William Charles, there is a referral option for instacart to get free delivery and $10 off your first order, referrer gets $10 too.

Might be worth it to set up a separate page for referrals?

David Anto
David Anto

Would say that people should register by the normal method as it gets you a $15 off on your first order but if you do it via referral you get only $10 off.
So unless you are both the referrer and referee, you are losing out on some $.

Brian C

Oh I didn’t realize that.

That is a pretty weak referral program then…..lol

Jay
Jay

It also depends on if both signup methods offer free delivery during the trial.

I think I would rather have $15 off plus 2 free deliveries than $10 + $10 off without free delivery.

Celia
Celia

Agreed. Though some stores offer free pickup as well. Two of my grocery store options do though their prices are really marked up.

Ericaq

Does anyone know if I can include the tip to hit the $50?

Missjenniferd1🦉🦁

It doesnt say it in the terms. I was thinking the same thing, but in the end i didn’t want to risk it so i did $50 pretax and pretip. Dont wanna give amex a way to back out but i didnt see anything stating it excluded tax, tip or fees, so you could fight it if they didnt give it to you but i just didn’t want a hassle

missjenniferd1🦉 🦁 Did you sign up for a new account for this offer? I see the Express trial with 14 days of free delivery but I am seeing in this discussion a $15 off. Did that come with your first delivery? TIA

Looking at Costco with only a 20% markup versus my grocery store with an almost 75% markup.

missjenniferd1🦉 🦁

yes, this was for a new signup, i hadn’t ever had an instacart before. i didnt get the offer for express trial until i was checking out. i couldnt find the $15 off though. i saw the comments of that, but i dont know where that coupon/promo came from because it wasnt offered to me, maybe it’s a coupon off the web somewhere, but i didnt bother, since no one said at the comments here where they got it,(at least at the time i ordered, new comments may state where that came from) and i was already to check out. i would have preferred the $15 off to the free express trial, since for each order it was only $4.95, so i basically got a total of $10 waived, since i idid 2 orders.

missjenniferd1🦉 🦁

also, amex already posted my $50 credit a few days after my 2 orders, so i’m happy with this deal, it went smoothly,.

beat2def
beat2def

I received the $20 off promo from Instacart + 500 Swagbucks portal + free shipping (for 14 days) AND the $25 back from Amex. All in all, I spent $20 for $70 worth of groceries I would have purchased anyway.

missjenniferd1🦉 🦁

but where was the $20 off found from? was that offered to you while you were on instacart, or was that off the web somewhere?

beat2def
beat2def

Yes.
I think it might be store specific. I shop at Aldi and I received the $20.00 promo.

missjenniferd1🦉 🦁

🙁 i did mine on aldi too…,. i feel short-changed now!! but i’m glad it was offered to you. i only got the offer of the free shipping trial.

In Texas, at least, Spec’s and Total Wine are locales. No markup either.

I did not get the credit. Transaction was from 10/22 so safe to say I’m not going to. It’s crap, it’s listed as:

TOTAL WI VIA INSTACART – SAN FRANCISCO, CA
TOTAL WI VIA INSTACART – SAN FRANCISCO, CA

But if you click on them they show:
Doing business as: TOTALWINE.COM
Doing business as: INSTACART-514
