[Expired] [Targeted] AmEx Offer: Save 10% on your Cell Phone Bill (max $15)

Deal has expired, view more amex offers by clicking here.

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get 10% back as a statement credit when you use a registered Amex card to pay your cell phone bill online directly with a US-based wireless telephone provider. Limit $15 back.

There’s also said to be a similar offer showing on some points-earning cards which give points instead of a statement credit.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid through June 15th, 2019
  • Offer can be used in a single charge or across multiple charges
  • Offer valid for payments for wireless telephone service charges made directly with US wireless telephone service providers (via online, mobile app, or by phone). Purchases made with third parties, authorized retailers or resellers are excluded.
  • Excludes purchases for VoIP, hardware, equipment, and bundled home/cable services.

Our Verdict

This is a fairly common offer that we’ve seen multiple times before. There was a similar offer (still available) some are seeing with a $40 cap instead of this $15. Remember that most cellular companies will allow you to prepay your bill which means you can lock in the 10% discount for the future.

This offer does trigger when you buy a new phone through T-Mobile. Currently they are running a nice promo on the Google Pixel 3a for free (through bill credits minus tax) if you trade in a certain phone. I used my Amex Everyday card on each line that wanted a phone upgrade and got the credit! Good deal since T-Mobile doesn’t offer any cashback through online portals.

This appears to have triggered with an equipment installment plan (EIP) payment on T-Mobile. This is important because it lets me get the Amex offer by paying the device payment but continue to use the CIP for the monthly bill to get the phone insurance.

I have both the offers and i have only wireless service in AT&T. I paid $10 to test if the offer is working or not and i got 3 emails from Amex saying “Great news! You just used your Amex Offer”. I am not sure why i got 3 emails. If it triggered both offers, i should have got only 2 emails.

Can anyone chime in, if you got any insight on this.
